I've been looking for Vallisneria nana but when I search internet for a picture, I found that Vallisneria nana picture look the same as Vallisneria americana var natans shown in the Aquarium plant handbook (p147)

I search at Tropica web site and Vallisneria americana var natans suppose to look like: http://www.tropica.dk/productcard_1.asp?id=055

and Vallisneria nana suppose to look like: http://www.tropica.com/productcard_1.asp?id=056C

So which on is the correct one? Tropica or Aquarium plant handbook

Both Vallisneria characteristics are defined as having slim leaves. I was searching sometime back for a grassy plant as a backdrop for my nano tank and americana nana came up instead of the natan variant, could be due to length of growth in aquarium environments rather than the textured grass. From the pics, i am just merely guessing....

Tropica lists them distinctively here. Plants look different based on the pictures, but not much is mentioned about the differences.

So what should I do? If I'm order it from LFS, I might get the wrong plant. Is there any LFS that can take order Tropica plants? I was reading from other thread that they o longer selling Tropica plant (can't remember the fish shop name).

if far east closing down, dont think theres another, maybe ADA biotope or ask Ben, mizuworld. I am usually not too worried with ordering plants from LFS, since they have a reference no. Just get hold of the book at either c328/y618, look for the name of the plant and get the first WPxxxx with the immerse or emmerse form reference.

Its hard to tell these 2 apart unless you have first hand experience e.g taiwan vs christmass where they are only differentiated under the micro.

That is not the point, I'm worry because according to Tropica nana and natans look different and what in the book although it was written natans but it is look like nana. Mizuworld do not have V.nana

By the way there is no V. nana in the book.

My sincere apologies. However, do note that the handbook have several species missing in them. I have always found them to be incomplete compared to Tropica. As to whether the pic is indicating the incorrect V species and should be V. nana, I do not know. Since both are reputable references.

Since tropica is the only website which gives a side by side comparison between all the V species, clearly indicating that the Vallisneria nana as having slimmer leaves than that of the america natans. Having read through that article would at least help you in determining if the species order is correct.

The only thing you can do now is based on your personal judgement, if the plant you receive is of slimer leave variant, then its the plant you are looking for, if it isnt, dont take it.

I am having the same problem with Rotala rotundifolia as well as tropica is indicating them as rotala indica while i believe the handbook list it as a different species all together.
