Hmmm... I've replanted/relocated Nymphea plantlets and adult plants many times. Never had the leaves rotting off.

    vinz,

when you replant adult plants, do you cut off the long roots? its extremely difficult to plant with them yeah? what i did was to cut away the roots... could that be the problem?

did you cut away all the roots totally?
normally you cut away the ends leaving about 1" to 1.5".
    is the rhizome still there?

normally, lotus have a big root-like thing called a rhizome. meant to store reserves.

    KF,
Could it be that the discus is exhibiting stress bars due to the higher pH/kH?

BTW, if you're in the neighbourhood, I wouldn't mind a plantlet of your Oriental to grow emerse.
    Cheers!!

    Hi Juggler,

I was stunned when I first saw the tank at it's prime (1st pic). It's really beautiful ! I've my 2 ft for over a yr now and it's nowhere close no matter what I plant. ;p

Where can I buy Eusteralis stellata ? Is there a common name ? I think I saw this in one of Amano's tank but it's much taller and grow at the back.

Where did you usually get all these plants ?

In your last pic, what's those low plants with rounded green leave ?

Btw, the stargrass you gave me are doing very well. So well that it spreads out instead of up and covers over my glosso now . Did you need to do anything special to make it grow tall ?

    Thanks once again.

    Peter

I got them from Teo Farm in emersed form.

They are Lobelia cardinalis. More info at http://www.e-aquaria.com/des_lobelia.html

That's great! Mine did not do well after some time and I gave up. Maybe when they grow too thick, some of them will try to grow towards the top. Try searching around in the forum. There were links to some sites discussing Star Grass.

    Thanks once again.

Lastly, discus would definitely do better in a bigger tank. Mine already crowded with 3 of them plus some angels.

    IrnBru,

Rhizome not quite the right term, tuber is a better, if not correct, word. It looks like a mini-potato or yam.

If it does not have one its still ok. For mine I cut the roots to about 1.5 to 2 inches then plant with a tweezer. Make sure not to bury the crown and tuber (if any). The crown is the base where the roots and leaves grow from. What you can do is plant it deep, then pull it up gently until you can see the tuber or crown. Tuber should be half exposed.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    Guess so, but gently.

Don't have to be too fussy about it, its ok if there are a few grains of gravel on the crown.

    Tank update in Jan 2003.

The E.stellata is growing very well.
Oh yes - there is a magnetic glass cleaner parked on the left side of tank. I found it very useful to remove algae on the glass without getting the hands wet. And it floats too.
