Help - Water cloudy after sponge dropped in tank

I was taking out the sponge from my external waterfall filter sponge, and dropped it accidentally into the tank. [I decided to wash the sponge because I noticed that a 2-3shrimps were swimming towards the surface (as though for air) and there were water bubbles at the edges of the tank water surface]
I fished the sponge out, but the water become a little cloudy immediately. I was worried about ammonia/nitrite spiking so I took out about 20-30% of water and added new waters. I had rinsed the sponge, and set the filter running again.

The water is slowly clearing, no more water bubbles at the surface, and none of the shrimps are swimming to the surface now, just one crawling about on the sides of the tank. But I am concerned about the survival of my CRS. Have to knock off from work now. Hope I don't see any dead shrimps tomorrow.

Will the shrimps be OK? If I do see dead shrimps tomorrow, what should I do? I do not have any emergency tanks, I also do not have any test kits.

Additional aeration is always helpful. Run an air pump if you have one.

    All's well

Thanks ...will look for more aeration.

Whew...all's well. Didn't see any dead bodies, problem is also not seeing the live shrimps either..not sure where they are hiding, as they are not at their usual hang-out.

Well, at least no frantic swimming to the top.

Hi its hard to make a judgement on not knowing what your tank set up is. is it a tank or small pond . Do you have more than one filter ? do you have good water circulation ? how big is your tank . how offten do you do water change . how long have you had you shrimp ? do you monitor your ph? do you have other tank inhabitents? well any ways you did the right thing by changing some of your water if you use chlorine remover and maybe some ph ajuster to your new water

My tank is about slightly larger than 1 feet.

Inhabitants: 15 CRS shrimps, 1 OTO
11 shrimps were introduced about 5 weeks ago. 4 on Monday.

Plants: Java fern and Java moss

    Gravel: normal stone gravels

2 filters: 1 internal sponge filter, and 1 hanging waterfall

Tank is about 2-3 months old - no water has been changed. Only top up daily due to water evaporation.

Only noticed that the 4 new shrimps introduced behaving erratically, i.e. keep swimming to the water brim.

Today they seem OK. Was wondering why the 4 new shrimps behaving so strangely.

Here's a pic of my tank.

    Smile shrimp tank

Tank looks nice plants look good . Ph is a big factor when intrducing new fish or invertebrates in a new tank . first you must change at least 1/8 to 1/4 weekly or 2 weeks at most never just top off evaporated water when the water evaporates it leaves all the nutrients good and bad behind then they will build up and one day everything will die. you must buy a ph test to see where your ph is new water in singapore is very hi in ph best to try and buffer your new water a bit to match your tank best for the health in the long run .
And also dont clean ,wash ,touch that hang on filter till it starts backing up and water is flowing out the over flow . then only rince the pad in some of your tanks own water thats a good time to time your water change put some in a bucket rince the pad fast and put it back in NEVER clean both your filters at once .
looks like your tank is full up so dont add any more inhabitents .
