My java ferns are turning brown; brown patches on leaves and stems and some new leftlets totally turning brown. Is it a nutrient deficiency?

did you just bough the plants from LFS? If it is within a month, then it is probably changing from emerse to submerse.

Hmmm, no think it's a emmersed to submersed transformation causing this. I have not much problems with java fern before. Isit caused no fertilizer?

Maybe you want to share your tank size, light, fert regime and CO2. no fertilizer is ok as long as you have low light (low tech tank)

I have the same problem too. I suspect it is my T5 light being too strong for them....anyone can verify?

No, maybe the plants is adapting. try a cooler water temperature. It really helps windelov ferns from my experience.
Adaption period for windelov to me seems to be about 3-4 weeks.

    Cheers, Christophe

It happens with older leaves and also dead spots. Trim those leaves and nice new ones will grow in it's place.
