Hi All! I'm Zahidah! Not quite new to AQ but I haven't gotten around to introduce myself yet. I started the planted hobby bout 2 yrs back, thanks to a friend who helped to give me a huge push and tons of help! I'd still consider myself pretty new to this hobby and yes, I still do make a few beginner's mistake but hei, we're all continuosly learning here right?
I hope that I can get constant guidance and help from you gurus out there!
Regards,
Zah

If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.
Hi Zahidah, since u have 2 years of experience with planted hobby, any pictures of your work to share?

I was planning on re-scaping my tank this Friday. I'll post the pictures when everything is done! Hopefully it'll work out well. Kinda had a disaster last week. Totally my fault to begin with...but it serves as a huge learning experience for me! Haha please don't ask what was the stupid thing I did! I'm totally depressed bout it! Such a simple thing...argh..Feel so bad that my fauna had to go through all that cause of my stupid mistake... But things are better now.
Anyway, I'm keeping a SE Asian profile for my tank. So I've been keeping more of barbs and rasboras. My dad actually bought dwarf neon rainbow fish but they were able to adapt to the conditions pretty well. I was planning on adding redline torpedos as the center piece since I've been keeping more of the smaller types. (I'm still not very good with all the latin names that most people in the hobby are...its just so difficult to remember!).
I'll keep you guys posted after I've done with all the re-scaping!!![]()

Hey, sorry for the late post....I'm still half way with my scaping. Got a couple more things I wanna add in and change a little more. Maybe you cld post pictures of your tank instead? Btw, what kind of tank setup do you have?
Here's a thought: People have always thought about how they've lived a day longer. Ever thought about how living a second longer brings you closer to your final destination?

Hei, nice tank! I've always liked the "rock scape" setup. Might consider it as a next project, but I've got a lot of things on my hand right now, especially with school just starting and all!
I was initially considering rescaping my tank using a "rock" setup in mind. But I'll just stick to my 2 driftwood for the time being. I'll post a picture next by next weekend if I've got the time. Plus kinda having prob with algae...Haha the plant's leaves are a bit unslightly now. Plus, I mentioned I had a tank problem earlier on right..My aubertii have finally started to grow again! I love those plants. They were actually flowering! Hope I can get them to grow like that again
Alright here's what my setup consists of so far:
Substrate: ADA Malaya
Flora: E.Tenellus, Blyxa Aubertii, Java Fern, Rotala Rotundifolia (I think), Limnophila Aromatica, Cryptocoryne Balansae.
Lighting: 2 PL 36 W (8 hours daily)
Hardscape: 2 pieces of driftwood
I've got a question for the limnophila right, do you plant it in a few stalks together or individually? Thanks!

Haha here it is...but its still in a bad shape cause I had a bacteria bloom not too long ago...some of the plants are still recovering. I only took the photo using my phone, so the quality may not be the best. Here it is...
fishy tank.JPG
Well, the aubertii are still recovering. I plan to get another of those to cover up the left mid-ground area. My rotalas and aromatica are supposed to be reddish purplish but I think its either the light is not strong enough or there's lack of iron in the tank. I added bolbitis too the d/w cause I just wanted to try it out. I thought it'd be interesting since ferns growing on the branches of trees are all to common. Not too sure if I'll keep it though...I'll just see how things go. My java fern on the second d/w isn't doing very well. It started melting and turning brown so I had to trim it down.. It used to have this "hang-over" effect which was really nice. Hopefully it'll grow out that way again. Haha..so yea...there it is...any comments? I'm cool with constructive criticism, so please feel free![]()

is that a 1footer tank?
i'm a total doink in giving comments....myself a newbie, can't even do WC properly...kekekek
rotalas and aromatica are known for their high lightings requirements.... what are your lighting specs like?
your java..is it turning brown? what do you mean by 'melting'.. javas are supposed to be the easiest to keep... i've had both narrow javas and bolbitis in my plastic tank, with any WC or any other ferts. just placed it by my window... they're sure staying green till now...
maybe other experts and scaping gurus may advice you...
its a good start nonetheless....keep it up!

Nah, mine is actually a 3 ft cubic tank. It looks small cause of the way I took the photo. Was too lazy to take out the camera.
My lighting spec is 2x36W PL. It should be the lights that are giving me the problem since the parts of the plants nearer to the surface are changing colours.
Yea, I've actually had those java ferns since I first started on my planted tank. They were doing really great. Yup, it was only after the great disaster (the bacteria bloom) that they started turning brown and stuff. Even my aubertii started to melt. Haha But things are better now. Just waiting for it to grow again!
But all in all, I think its still not too heavily planted yet. I'm going to add a couple more plants if I've got the time to go to the shop. Argh, there are hardly any good shops in jurong west! So far the ones near my place is at this wet market and I totally hate the way they keep the fishes, all bagged up for days. Poor little creatures...Tsk Tsk

3ft cube!!That is a very big tank, bigger than a 6x2x2. It sure does not look like a 3ft cube in the photo. 2 x 36W is definitely not enough for your tank, you need a MH light instead.

3ft cube?
The picture definitely doesn't shows it.
Which jurong west do you stay?
I normally goes to C328 to buy or order the plants I want.

Oops sorry, there was a typo. Haha its a 2 ft cubic tank. But I still think its relatively big. Haha ok, maybe I can upload another picture by the end of the week![]()
Hmm I'm not very familiar with some of the terms yet. What's an MH light?
Oh ya, I went to C328 before but it's a little out of the way and its kinda inconvenient. I used to go to Biotope before if moved. Even though it was a kinda far, there was a direct bus right in front of the place. Its like super far for me now. But I guess I'm willing to travel since I like the place. It gives a good feel to it. Haha ok maybe its just me, I don't think other people will be bothered by a shop's layout too much though.![]()
