    Hi Gurus

need some advise with a small external cannister filter, boyu EF-05.
the picture shows my current setup.

The filter is very small, only 15cm high with a flowrate of 200L/H (i have some doubts with the actual flowrate ), i thinking of adding more filtration mediums to make more room for bb.

I am thinking of taking away the sponge and replacing it with the bio filtration material and ceramic rings. The problem is there is a partition in the middle.

Can any bro advise me how should I place the filtration mediums? Or should I just leave it as per current setup? Thanks!

The sponge will help trap the finner dust particle.

The sponge acts both as mechnical and biological filtration, I do not think it is a good idea to remove it. Anyway, what's your bioload and setup? Does it really need more filtration?

    Hi Jacian

my tank is quite small 58 x 20 x 30 cm which is only about 35L. Then due to space contrain (i am setting up this tank in a cupboard ), i got this small filter which states flowrate of 200L/h.

Should be planting HC, Glosso and hairgrass on 70% of the tank floor.
Will get 2-3 SAE, 20-30 cardinal and glowlight tetras.

Yeah, maybe i should just leave the sponge alone.

Any advise on the filter materials that I am currently using?

Don't fix it if it is working fine for you now.

thanks for the advise guys. I shall keep to the original setting but now I am putting only biohome as media.
Anyway I changed to Eden 501, look exactly the same as Boyu, but you wouldn't say that in terms quality. The flowrate for Eden 501 is bigger and its quieter.
The flowrate for Boyu is so small that my surface skimmer is not working
Definately will recommend it to any bros looking for a small cannister filter.
