    Bros,

I have just started a 2' planted tank and really need a lot of help on what to buy...

    1) How much is a brand new CO2 tank with all the necessary parts?
    2) What brand to go for?
    3) I am looking for a 2nd hand Cannister filter and good and reliable one but hard to find... what are the recommended make and model for my 2' tank?
    4) How much is a brand new all the necessary parts and tubing.
    5) I am currently using a 2' PL 55W light... is that sufficient?
    6) I understand from a lot of bros that they hate snails.. and they will get rid of it immed if they find any and they will even resort to keep a puffer to kill them all. But why do we still buy those snails and put in? Are they diff snails?
    7) I understand that some snails eat algae but some eat the plants... so which is which?
I have 2 golden algae eater in my 2' tank and intend to throw in some cherry shrimps... will there be any prob?
    9) How long do we switch on the CO2 pump and the lights? 12hr on and 12hr off?

I am sorry if I asked too many questions and i know some are stupid questions... I am really sorry but i am really confused... seems like the more i read the more i get confused.

Thanks in advance for all the assistance and help.

You still need to read more and more!

A 5L Co2 with a JBJ solanoid is around 100+120= 220. Otherwise a manual regulator is around 30. For manual, to avoid the trouble of tuning every day, I leave it open 24/7.

I used external cannister filter. Jebo ones around $60-70, Eheim 2026 around $200.

Ya 55w is alright. Should allow you to have a glosso lawn.

Snails population can be controlled by the amount of food you feed to your fishes.

You might also consider a fan to keep the water cooler.

Go and read more on fertilizers (the macros and the micros).

    Cheers, Christophe

    Depends on your budget.

    I use Jebo (838 ) i think.

    Now I have 2026, and 2x 2028.

My jebo did not break down, my eheim never broke down. Once water leak from my jebo filter, but that because I put too much media in etc...

    1) How much is a brand new CO2 tank with all the necessary parts?
I bought mine about 6 years ago for $180 total I guess. With proper solenoid regulator and steel CO2 2L tank.

    2) What brand to go for?
No particular brand. Try Biotope opposite Boon Keng MRT.

    3) I am looking for a 2nd hand Cannister filter and good and reliable one but hard to find... what are the recommended make and model for my 2' tank?
Try the Atman series. Cheap and reliable in my experience.

    4) How much is a brand new all the necessary parts and tubing.
Set aside a budget of $50.

    5) I am currently using a 2' PL 55W light... is that sufficient?
    More than enough

    6) I understand from a lot of bros that they hate snails.. and they will get rid of it immed if they find any and they will even resort to keep a puffer to kill them all. But why do we still buy those snails and put in? Are they diff snails?
Yea there are different snails. The snails that we all hate are those that multiply really fast and because they are so small when they pepper your front glass it irritates you when you sit down to view your tank.

    7) I understand that some snails eat algae but some eat the plants... so which is which?
    Best solution: don't get snails.

I have 2 golden algae eater in my 2' tank and intend to throw in some cherry shrimps... will there be any prob?
Should be no problem... you can experiment with fishes now, but later on you might grow tired of that mixed up mess and go for uniformity...

    9) How long do we switch on the CO2 pump and the lights? 12hr on and 12hr off?
Yeap. Fix the CO2 and the lights to the same timer.

Don't worry. The more questions you ask the better.

Does that means that beside being hardworking scoping everydaym I need to get the puffer fish? Just out of curiousity, How did they come about?

    1) I understand some ppl put mollies or swordtail to remove the algae... isit true? How big can the mollies and swordtail grow?
    2) Will they attack my shrimps?
    3) Beside mollies and swordtails, another other fishes that I can add in ideally those that wont grow big or rather super slow as mine is only a 2' tank
    4) When I feed my shrimps food, will the mollies and swordtails feed on the food and refuse to work... haha... sorry i know this is a stupid question... but another worry is that before the food can reach the bottom, will the fish gobble them up...

    Thanks...

Those snails are usually on the plants that you buy from shops. A good way to minimise the possibility of them appearing in your tank is to throughly wash any plants that you have bought.
