I'm just a noob starting out on my 1st scape. So hope for some advice from the experienced sifus.
I have been reading this forum and picking up lots of ideas and tips, and salivating at all the beautiful pictures of scapes by members.
I have a 36cm tank (x 22cm depth and 26 cm height ... about 5.4gal) ... is that called a 1foot tank? it's slightly longer than 1 foot.. about 14inches.
I visited NA and bought a 18W PL lamp for it. Next I want to get a filter system and substrate.
Looking thru this forum, I was attracted by the Eden 501 external canister filter. NA did not have stock. Does anyone know if c328 has? How much would it cost. If not, whats a good alternative external filter for my tank to recommend. Not too expensive, as I am on a low budget and want to start off slow.
As for substrate, I am thinking in the lines of ADA Amazon II... is that a good choice? How much would I need for this tank, and what would be the price. Is NA or C328 a better place to get it from?
Thanks in advance for the advice!![]()

Hey! Thanks a lot for the link! Will send msg to the forummer for the Eden.
Hi bro,
for your tank dimension is bigger by 1ft a little bit only. Eden 501 is just nice for your tank. If you bought it new will only cost you a blue note or less. You can call C328 to check up the stocks.
For substrate, if you are doing planted tank.. best is to get ADA Amazonia I instead of II. You can order from NA.

Thanks for tip! I have called C328 and they DO have stock of the Eden 501. Yay!!! I'll go down today and get one.
I'll check out the substrate there as well.
ok.. got hold of an Eden 501, and bought the substrate as well.. now to start the work. I shall keep a photo log of the activities and post!
I have got a piece of driftwood, and it's not sinking. Following the advice from the forum, I intend to tie some weights to it. I was thinking of using some stones, and make the stones also a part of the scape. What kind of stones can i use? Is granite ok? Where is the best place to find a few pieces of granite?
Also - how do we tie the stones to the driftwood, use fishing line?
My driftwood seems to be settling in the water (another tank) by itself after a week of being weighed down by stones. However, there is a serious bout of algae on the dw. Will washing and scrubbing the algae off the dw (without soap, chemicals, etc) be enough to get rid of it permanently?
Also - I want to buy a whole bunch of plants to scape my tank... which plant farm should I go to to get a varied bunch at a low cost??
