The filter i am using is an Eheim 2213.
Decided to clean my tank today. i sucked out water, and the water level dropped below the level of my inflow (lily pipe), and i had forgotten to switch off the filter. there was a loud sound(probably from the sucking of air). Panicking, i turned off the filter switch. i added water until the brim, and turned on the filter. Not only did it fail to work normally, there was an extremely loud sound.
Had tried to do everything. Now, the water comes out very very slowly, coupled with an extremely LOUD sound. What can i do? Please help!!
Water in my tank is becoming murky. dirty things from the filter is come out too.
regards..

It's called airlock.
1. Switch off the filter
2. Open the top
3. Fill it up with water
4. Close it
5. Switch it on again
6. Magic!
thank you! nothing else will work right?
maybe you want to check the impeller incase chip.
Yeah, sounds like the impeller is spinning in the air and not pushing the water out. You have to open the filter and fill it up with water again. Another way is to create a water siphon.
Put a pail on top of a chair, have the inlet pipe higher and have the filter on the floor with the outlet pipe at a lower position. Turn on the filter and try to create a water siphon. As the siphon start to run, you may want to rock the filter to remove excess air. Let it run until the air is pushed out by the water flow.
Note that this work only if the trapped air is near the outlet. If ti does not work you would have to open the filter and manually fill it up with water.
Please do not keep the filter running with trapped air inside as it may overheat the motor or wear out the impeller.
If this still don't work, then you will have to empty the filter, connect everything up, from the outlet with the inlet in the tank, from the outlet, suck the water and the water will flow into the filter. Quickly put the outlet back into the tank and be ready to switch on the filter. Once the water touches the base on the filter cover, switch the filter on.
This works every time for me although a bit "yuck"..

i hate sucking, yesterday, i tried to suck, and some water went in........
you can guess the rest....
Will try this when i reach home today.
Get the Eheim installation set for the inlet side of your filter. There's no need to suck the hose anymore. I've never set up a tank without this accessories even though the tank is not mine. Sucking the hose of the canister is a dirty habit as you do not know what is contained in the droplet of water.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

Also, it tastes bad. Guess the old addage is true - when sucking, never swallow. Tank water I mean.
At least it wasn't a disaster like mine where the water pressure just made the water continually flow out of the tank through the tube when I stupidly opened my filter. It flooded my living room with fish water. Quite an adventure.

Fish enthusiast is a nice euphemism for manic geekery.
what you need is just those red or blue color pump thinggy that ussually sell in neighbourhood shop. It is only $2. No need to use your mouth.
Try this way, empty you canister filter, put the inlet to your tank, put the outlet to the big bucket. Either use your mouth or pump that I mention above, just suck enough that water start flowing from your tank to the canister filter. Let the water will up the canister filter and start flowing out from outlet to the bucket. Shake the canister filter abit to get rid off the air lock inside. Once done, close the inlet valve and put the outlet on the tank, open the valve and turn on the filter.
Isn't all ehiem filter canisters is self priming? My 2230 have this function.
Eheim classics are not self priming
Use a powerhead to blow the water into the inert tube of the filter.
It reminded me of a similar disaster like yours when i was cleaning my filter in the kitchen. Mine flowed from my room past the living room and into my kitchen... and i thought my 2 ft tank cracked open. Thank god the flow didn't spread out all over the place.. if not i will have a marsh land.
Haha. Almost had a heart attack.. worse still was i had a plane to catch in 3 hours time!
Apologies for veering off topic.
Cheers!
haha... let me veer of a bit then.
mine was worst. my luohan knock it's tank glass and it cracked. flooded my living room!!! lucky or unluckyly there was a carpet to soak the water while i rush to get towels and pail to save the louhan. LOL ... NOW i can't forget that man. haha...
from flying planes, to planting underwater plants
i felt very dizzy after trying to get some suckion and woundered if i had co2 or nitrate or nitaite poisioning. i did not even get a mothfull. i still feel werid now - wonder why?
but filling the filter worked - phew
Quite unlikely that you have CO2, NO2 or NO3... the levels in typical tank water are not high enough to effect humans.
But people do get dizzy after they suck too hard for too long (I'm guessing oxygen deprivation)... especially if the counter pressure is too high. That usually passes in a few seconds.
How long did your dizziness last? Still dizzy?

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
