Richard,
look like X-ray tetra (Pristella maxillaris)

Hi,
Anyone can help ID this fish for me?
I got it cause it looked cute,
but LFS auntie doesn't know the name,
just some breed of tetra.
Thanks.

Pristella maxillaris

Andy, magic4lifez,
Thanks, but when I google for more info, the photo shows a narrower body.
Could this be a mutated version of the original Pristella maxillaris with a broader body?

This is a captive-bred variety
One thing about these short-bodied pristellas: i've noticed that some of them have solid black eyes(i.e. instead of the black pupil and silver surrounding, the whole eye is just black), while others have normal eyes (like yours)... anyone knows the cause?
Balloon version of this fish is everywhere. Do you have a side profile?
Does it look like this?

Andy,
Yes, I got a few of those albino tetras for shooting.
Their pale color makes it abit hard to focus.
Any fish photos from you?![]()

I remember that there are about 3 different types.
The round ballooned ones are more expensive. If bought in bulk they stay together as a school, creating a nice view.
The other is the longer one. They tend to swim around more often, they don't stay in a location, unlike the round ones.
The last I know is ballooned ones, with BLACK ROUND eyes. Also stay stationary as a group.
