In school today, some P2s found a baby bird and a nest. Apparently the nest and the bird fell from a tree and some little monster of a child stepped on the bird, causing concerned kids to come and tell me about it.

I managed to get it home (much to my mom's dismay - I knew I shouldn't have told her) and after much trying, it finally lapped up some blended apple. I have no idea what bird this is, but I'm hoping to take care of it till it's at least ready to fly. Can anyone ID this bird for me? Its breast is a brilliant yellow and I noticed it lapped its food from the syringe with its tongue. Also - anyone with experience keeping chicks (and I mean birds here), what's the best foods for them? Obviously they can't survive on blended apple.

Based on your brief discription, it could be either a Black-naped Oriole or Olive-backed Sunbird.

The Olive-backed Sunbird seems to fit the feather colouring best! Thanks Wks!

You might want to try mealworms or crickets.
    Something of an insect base.
I suspect you can nurse it back and grow it on.
But it will probably not be able to hunt.
So when the time comes you may leave some worms at your window for it to return.
Then you will have a "bird buddy"!
Hopefully it will learn what it needs to do by itself after some weening from the window...

you must squash the mealworms or crickets first before feeding it until the chick will be able to take its meal whole

god bugs... no >_<; I feel like her mom. I'm going to try some organic baby food mixed with chick feed that I hopefully can buy today from the bird shop.

Children who go around hurting animals freak me out. I have a cousin who went around killing stuff when we were kids. He grew up into an equally horrible person. We won't be suprised if he ends up murdered in a gutter someday.
