    I'm using surface skimmer, so should be middle and top i guess. Middle should do fine(ADA intake design also dont go to the bottom) as i dont want to disturb any plant grow from the gravel, i noticed alot of people place till bottom, but in planting there's so many plant blocking around, you dont really get to suck the dirt from bottom, usually those dirt will become fert for the plant or bacteria consume. I just reversed those Eheim plastic hose to use, height is just nice, the longer part will be outside. One thing good about placing middle is it also intake CO2 in, as CO2 likely to float above bottom, you dont waste CO2 at the same time.

    Plant is "Rotala rotundifolia". 1.5ft cube, front curve, not an ideal tank to me, given to me by the cleaner who about to dispose it.
