With the original taiwan moss dying after the last BGA attack almost 9 weeks ago, i finally removed the whole moss backdrop. This however lead to an outbreak of another type of algae... brown diatoms. They were pretty much everywhere. To continue using the EI dosing was less than desireable. Algae consumed my whole tank with brown mulm and clogged up my ohf in just 2 weeks. I guess trying to replicate the EI using other types of nitrate liquid fert instead of pure KNO3 like tom's just doesnt quite cut it for me anymore. As long as theres a small concentration that of 1/20 ammonia/urea will cause algae regardless of whether its limiting plant growth or not, and i definitely know mine has dispite it's been indicated as released in small pulses.
Instead of going out to get pleco, otto, shrimps, algae chemicals like most guys, i went ahead to grab plants i needed for my next 1FT tank; now into it 9th week of HC incubation. y618 was fortunate enough to carry both the rotala sp green and rotala nanjesan. I noticed the nanjesan
looks different in emmersed form, but auntie says its definite the one. wp742 with sp green as 543.
I took 2 pots since i only wanted to fill the back half of the 20cmx20 genoah cube, the stalks per pot was very generous and auntie as usual give very good discount, under $2.00 for both. Took about 2-3 hours to sort the stems, cleaned them and had them planted. Hopefully, i could
double the growth so i can spend less on the remaining 20 pots of plants.
9 moths if supposely iwagumi went wrong ...bye bye
Didnt have any place left for the needle and narrow ferns, so haphazardly planted them on the
sides, wretched onto a plastic black mesh. I hope i gave enough space for the light to penetrate
through the lower leaves. Will start EI again tomorrow and monitor growth. Planted the sp green
behind with the nanjesan upfront.
I was wondering, will this tank be sufficient to grow this plants well ? thanks.
