I recently caught some Tilapia and put at home...they eat a lot and shit even more...hence I bought some Oto Fish to clean up the tank...and guess what happened?

The Tilapia murdered and had Oto for dinner...munching away now.

Anyone got idea how to keep the tank clean with these Tilapia???

What gave you the idea that oto eats poop of other fish.
They feed on algea with the suckers of theirs.
In fact, there is no such fauna that can eat poop of other fishes. To keep a tank clean get a good filter and do regular WC.

You're lucky the tilapia didn't choke on the spines of the oto, else it will be double the losses.

Noticed you are using a sponge filter, don't think that is sufficient.

WaterH20 is right, stronger filter and regular water change is the way to go.

I hope you do not think that plecos or suckerfishes are tank cleaners who eat fish poo as well. Its very much the opposite.

Yah! Very true... it fact, they (suckers & plecos) are quite heavy poo-ers... Good filtration, siphoning out of their poos & regular water change is the only way to go long...

Not to mention that they grow very fast after they have tasted fish food.

Hmm.. not many people I know will want to keep tilapia though. Interesting to know, they were also known as 'Japanese fish'(Don't know why, might be WW2. Definately not from Japan) and also 'poop eating fish'(Because they always hung out around the bottom of the out house waiting for their meal) .Maybe that's why the resturants only serve Red Tilapia?

Actually I have caught tilapias from the reservoir, some of them have very impressive colouring, could be a hybrid. But like all tilapias, they are very hungry, the colourful one took a lure the same size as it is and it was a 2kg fish!

Haha, I guess it's my fault to put in those Oto!!
    Yes...it's a double loss...that particular Tilapia choked to death...sucks!

Well, I had replaced a new filter (bubble type) with brand new filter medium and change water...(my arm muscle just grew 1 cm more)...

Haiz...maybe they need new owners...who want to eat..oops!!...raise them?
