Can't really see the plant well? Looks like some species of amazon sword... probably a broad leaf variety... but can't be sure... mebbe you can take a better pic? One with the plant as the focal point?

i have a leafy plant in my small tank that is not doing well in particular... from the image link below, its the one in the middle just behind the log... don't even know its name...
http://jhouserocks.tripod.com/images...7gallon203.jpg
it was doing well when i first bought it until BBA started to grow all over it... but eversince getting rid of BBA in my tank... it has never recovered from it...
most of the leaves have some kinda brownish jagged stripes on it... and it seems thin and almost melting...
i have just done a revamped of my tank and when i pulled out these plants, the roots seems to be okay... was quite long...
i do not normally add liquid ferts... only abit of Geo Liquid occasionally... but other plants like elatine and nymphea in the tank are doing well...
appreciate some advice please... thanks in advance!

I think the plant you got is the same as mine. I got this problem of the leaf showing jagged lines but my leaf is turning red in color. Even the new leafs growing out are red. Does it show abnormality or it's just that the iron is sufficient for the plant? I just switched from sera floradepot to JBL aquabasis.
I think find JBL aquabasis is better cos when I uprooted the plants, it doesn't cause a big cloud of 'dust' in water like the other one I used.

Brigette,
Read is normal if the plant is supposed to be red. New AquaBasis? Read at the website that it contains enough Fe to last about 4 to 6 weeks. After that you need to supplement substrate Fe with root fertilisers. Else just dose liquid Fe to water.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

dawndawn, do you have a picture to show?
what's the name of this plant anyway? think its quite a common plant yeah?

ya, it's a very common plant. I thought it wasn't supposed to show an red color at all. Abit weird... Anyway, here's a picture of the plant I have. I can't show the actual one in the tank cos I can't get hold of any digital cam recently.

dawn, the one is posted looks more like the E. major
Irn-Bru, u got a E. bleheri
its one of the hardiest plants I have, u may wanna shift the plant away from the driftwood to let it grow properly without any obstruction and perharps u like to stuff in some root monster to help booast the growth. It is supposed to be a hugh plant, mine grew 2ft in height... furthermore, the conplex root structure requires alittle more space, how thick is yr gravel and base fert thickness?

Simon,
Just curious, what are the differentiators between a bleheri and e.major?
Allen

yeah... i thought my leaves aren't as wavy as the one in dawndawn's picture...
i have since rescaped my tank... removed the entire piece of wood... pluck out these plants and replanted at the back of the tank by themselves... with lotsa space...
my tank is only 1.25 ft, the gravel thickness is 3cm to 8cm... as for base fert... it was only a very tiny box recommended by Chan (spread thinly throughout the tank)... probably all released during my messy revamp...
but why is it that my lotus seems to be doing okay?

Not all books get it right either, but it seems bleheri has somewhat thicker leaves and is the common Amazon sword found in even wet market LFS. Major has much longer leaf blades and when large looks almost like a horemani.

DawnDawn, could your plant be E. oriental instead? New leaves of E. oriental are red.
BC

Errr if the E.Major looks like a horemani, then I dun think it looks like a bleheri? They are quite different looking...----------------

Dunno what my plant is actually. I saw the plant on this dennerle website and found it the most similiar to the one I'm having with curvy leafs. Ya, most of the new leafs grown out shows redness. I got the plant from zerocool and I thought it's a very common amazon sword.
