I currently have a 29 gallon (30" wide, 12" deep, 18" tall) tank that is not planted, but I want to convert this tank to a planted tank soon. I have been doing lots of research on the topic, but I am not clear what kind of light I should get. At this point, I am not definite on which types of plants I want to use in the aquarium. However, I still need to purchase a lighting system.

My question is, does anyone have any recommendations as to any affordable lighting systems that I could purchase online. The lighting system selection at my LFS is terrible, and they only have one fixture, which does not seem adequate (about 45 watts I believe). Therefore, I would like to purchase a light online, but I am not sure which type. I want to buy a high quality light that will be able to grow virtually any type of plant (like I said, I don't know which types of plants I will be using). I would also like the tank to have a lunar light, because the room my tank is in is pitch black at night. However, something affordable is also a key consideration.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it...

For starters eBay can be a great place to look, once you know what your after that is. Perhaps others here can guide on that matter.

You want a lunar light? For night time viewing i take it. I don't know if others do that but i wouldnt of thought it would be ideal for a planted tank where plant growth is priority. If it was a dark tank with wood and algae for Neon Tetra's i'd understand. Personally i'd want all the bulb slots to be filled with T5 lights for the plants during photo period in the day. That would be my main priority, not lunar. Daytime viewing, night time rest for plants too

As for the light unit, i have an Arcadia which i've been impressed with untill now. Only because i need to upgrade to T5 lights.
