Your current position for the fern looks good. If you need to add more... add a bit more branches around that area. Are those algae on the sand? You need cleaning crew![]()

haha... thanks~ will go and source for more branches... erm those are not algae... its hairgrass on the foreground planted too sparingly thats y so many empty patches... those behind the hair grass are the so call ah pek plant(not sure of their scientific name).
i think the hardscape is nicenice placement of the wood.
those hairgrass really do look like algae
tie some moss on the branches, will look good
To tie ferns or mosses, look for area that is being either cut off or bend area. section. You need more slope to create the depth behind.

Hi Jin
At this point I think you have enough ferns. You just need to let it grow. A least 3-6 months. Keep trimming the blackening ones and those with baby plantlets.
You should plant some moss on the branches as suggested by members above.
I would try to get more hairgrass and plant them 5-10 plants 1cm apart. They grow very fast with medium -high lighting 7-8 hours a day. Remember to trim them to 1 cm above root level before you plant if you get emerse or poor quality ones.
Tip-if you are doing anything major, do remove the fauna-especially the discus, they will dash around and uproot your newly planted plants.

haha... the thing is my parent don't allow another tank in the house... so i always do my scaping with them inside... they don't really dash around now like they did last time... they just swim away when my pincer approaches them... but they do like to blow into the sand when feeding.. so normally i will plant deeper than usual for those which are easily uprooted...
hmm... actually i was thinking weeping moss as i like the drooping effect and some spiky moss at some place... pic below red is weeping moss position and baby blue is spiky moss...
stan,
you said trim them 1cm above the root?? meaning even the white part above the root also gone? left with those green leave??

Hi Planted86,
Keep the roots and throw the green parts!
I usually keep them in a pail with aeration while I do my scaping when I was renting an apartment and had only one tank.
I'd keep the same mosses at same levels around the tank. I try not to mix nowadays. Strictly personal taste.![]()

ohh... sorry, misunderstood what you post... brain cannot function properly after chionging school project...
maybe i will try to keep both moss 1st and see which 1 suits what i have in my mind... if the effect is not bad i may also keep both the moss...![]()
Hi Jin,
No worries-
I think you can try out both-no right no wrong, nice or not nice is individual.
As for position of the moss, I personally think do not plant so close to the tips for spiky moss. It will look like unbalanced due to it's bigger fronds.
