depends on the personality of the parents. I've had males that eat the fry, females that abandon the fry and both males and females that look after the fry. if you want to play safe, remove the male once the eggs are laid and the female after about 2 weeks or so. however, if it's been a month and the fry are still fine, they you probably have a pair of good parents. with my pair of good parents, i've left the fry in with the parents for 2 months before removing them, and from my initial count, i barely lost any if at all.

Sorry zeek_fon for hitchhiking off this thread.. just thought i would ask my question here instead of starting a whole new thread

Anyhow, when playing safe and removing the male, is it ok to place the male in a breeder box within the same aquarium, or should he be given a separate abode? My main concern would be that the female will still be able to see him if i just put him in a breeder box. Will this stress her unduly?

Both my new apisto pairs just spawned, at the same time

The female will not be stress, however, your male might be in the small breeder box.

zeek_fon, any complication for this arrangement... of what fish, may I ask?

(I know you are probably talking of the same fish from your previous thread, but for the members who didn't know any better, this thread will be much more useful if they know of the fish in question, without the need to search for your other thread, yeah? )

    Hi Quixotic,

Sorry for the late reply. Just returned from reservist.

The fish in my 2ft tank is Apistogramma Agassii 'Netz' which I brought from Biotope plus 4 OTO, 2 Tiger OTO and about 4-5 Yamato shrimps. Think bro illumnae has 1 pair too It's from the same batch. A wonderful pair indeed. Sorry if I have misled anyone.

    Hi illumnae,

Thanks for your precious advice. Appreciate.

    Cheers to all.
