From my experience, it biodegrade even before the mosses take root.

use thin fishing line i've been using that in all my tanks so far...it's practically invisible especially as the moss thickens and grows over it, and it never degrades so you don't have to worry about the moss floating away before it takes root
you can just tie it like how you use thread to tie
Any secure way of tying is fine. If you want it to be neater however, you can take a look at this website..

cheers,
Thanks guy for the info.

strangly, the cotton thread i use does not biodegrade at all.. even after 4 - 6months.
nope.. just normal cotton thread from pasar malan..
i have seen and touched ADA moss cotton.. feels no difference from mine..
i have used it in co2 tanks..
the thread is still there even after months....
and plus the use of ADA soil..(pH was around 6.2 then)
i have reconfirmed with my uncle's tank. 8months ago, i tied a us fissiden on mesh for him. with my usual pasar malam cotton thread.
till now its still in the tank.. his using GeX soil.. so pH should be around 6.5. the cotton thread is still there..
Moss Cotton. I've tried...not much of a use. Like what wynx mentioned, it biodegrades before the moss catches onto the wood. As a result, you'll have a mess in your tank with pieces of moss lying around. Not to mention if you're using for riccia, it will be hell of a mess in your tank...

Planted tank: Melanotaenia Lacustris, Melanotaenia Parkinsoni, Melanotaenia Praecox, Glossolepis Incisus, Melanotaenia Maccullochi, Melanotaenia Boesemani, Iriatherina Werneri, Barilius Canarensis
Btw how long does the moss or fissidens take to root on the branches or stone?

Spiky moss do cling to the woods, after a long time. Usually, the Vesicularia sp. of moss clings better onto the woods. PH of the water plays a part in the bio-degrading of cotton?
Cheers,
when i was removing spiky moss on my wood, i found that it does cling however, the moss was growing there for over a year already, so no surprise that it attached itself by that time for fissiden, mine was rather well rooted to wood after ~2 months.
Evolutionz's pasar malam thread seems to work well too if you don't want to work with fishing line I find fishing line slightly harder to work with than thread as it's stiff and tends to bounce back sometimes when i'm trying to work a knot with it. I use it out of habit, because i prefer transparent to black and because i'll know it'll never melt away. personal preference really. if i were to start over with Evolutionz's advice i'd probably go with the black thread too
