    Hi guys,

Just wanna check with you... for the philips FL 865 tubes which you guys recommend so much, is it a TLD36W865? Also, how much are these tubes (typically). I just found a local exporter of these tubes, and the price she quoted me is so low that I'm wondering if I've gotten the right tube? Also, for those of you using PL865, can you furnish me with the model number? I go check the price as well.

Cool! So its a T-8 tube right? and does this work without an e-ballast or only with? and its so Cheap... even cheaper than my hitachi ebts. Wow now I can really change my tubes every few months without feeling the pinch.

Anyway, is this tube easy to find in singapore or am i fortuntate to discover the exporter? Also whats the model number for the PL light version?

Hahah sorry so many questions... a bit excited.

Hitachi EBT seems the perform better than the Philips IMO. That's the reason why the price difference. I had replaced the Philips with the HEBT, and the results were intantaneous. Then again the Philips tubes were kinda old so maybe the improvement was not due that it was better. Also the price of the Philips tubes is also relatively lower due to it's availabilty in the market.

Sorry, I don't really know the PL tube part no. Maybe someone can read it off their Philips PL tubes. I'm sure it hasn't faded away.
    Cheers!!

Hmmm... Any idea where I can find some technical specs for Hitachi EBTs? I've been searching all over and can't seem to find them. Also, how old were your philips tubes?

There are a few reasons why I'm keen to switch to the 865 series... (feel free to disagree)

    1. They are T-8 tubes which have higher efficiency than the T-12 (save some $$$)
    2. They are tri-phosphor tubes which supposedly give about 86lm/watt (dunno what are HEBT levels)
    3. Being T-8 tubes, they block less of the light being reflected back, and thus you benefit from more reflected light
    4. They are half the price of my Hitachi EBTs
    5. They supposely only have a 5% degradation in output intensity after 12000 hrs
    6. They have a good CRI of 85.

    Philip 18W 865 so cheap ah? $2 - $5? Then i think i can forget about selling mine 1.5mth old's.

Anyone wants it? Maybe can spare me some extra ET, MM or crypt balansai for it?

OK guys, I finally found some info on the Hitachi EBT tubes...

So heres a Side by side comparison

    HEBT Hi Lumic D
    37W
    3460 Lm
    T-9 Tube (28mm Dia)
    CRI=?
    6700K

    Philps 865
    36W
    3250 Lm
    T-8 Tube (26mm Dia)
    CRI=85
    6500K

Also theres small chart showing the spectral distribution of HEBT

    http://www.holjact.com/e_jargon.htm

Sadly it looks like the 5000K might do better than the 6700K for plants, and the green spike is pretty large...

Overall I think the HEBT is still the better tube, though it cost more than double the 865 in price.

I think it's about $4/tube. I remember I always paid $24 for 6. Cannot be too sure the shop is very near to SLT.

HEBT are FL tubes not PL, so you can't use if yours is a PL socket... Dun think there is a PL version...

The actual question is can you connect HEBT to e-Ballast.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

If the e-ballast is for FL tube, how come cannot connect to HEBT?

It seems 15w 1.5 feet HEBT is hard to find as most of the shops carry 2' and 3' only, anyone know where can i find it?

As from the diagram on the e ballast the tube looks like FL. the only thing I do not understand is that I do not need starter for PL. but what about the FL tube, is the starter build in in the ballast or I need to add a starter for FL. tube?
May be if someone go down to Mr. Chan can check with him.
