maybe the plants are adapting from emerse to submerse, any new leaf grow? What plants that dying? How many watt is your total light? 180cm is very big tank.

as for the fish and shrimps, your tank probably not fully cycle yet, only 2 weeks.

Dont dose fert everyday, 3 times a week of require will do. Iron only 1 week once as it can get from trace fert, dose slightly more potassium. Your water circulation and CO2 may not be enough also.

Need to check with you whether you have cycled your tank before planting. Normally i cycle my ADA at least a week before planting.

    Dear all,

    1. I did recycle the water for 2 weeks,
    2. Over dose might be the problem.
    3. I will put in an UV later on, since I have one with the old tank and migration is in progress.
    4. New leaf isd growing, but some of the plant has totally "decay".... too bad.

Here are some question I would like to double confirm. Hope all senior can help a bit. Thanks a million in advance.

    a. If I change water daily would solve this problem?
    b. Put in the UV would resolve the problem? Which I will eventually put in.
    c. Stop dosing for how long usually for new tank?
    d. 2 X T5 (90 cm) is enough?
    f. Algea is forming now, and I do a cleaning weekly on the surface of the glass, is this enough?

Anyway, hope to hear from you all.

    Questions
    a) Changing the water daily could cause more problem because even before the plants can intake the ferts that you put in, you take the ferts out through WC so plants very difficult to adapt. Once a week WC will do.
    b) Put in UV to solve what problem? Algea? Plants dying? Is your tank near the window? Not very specific here.
    c) As mentioned before, there is no need to fertilize daily. 3 times a week is sufficient and follow the dosage if you are using commercial fertilizers. e.g seachem,sera,wondergrow....
    d) Sufficient Lighting is not measure by the quantity and length of light bulbs you have but rather wattage. Check what is the watt of your individual tubes and work out a watt/gallon ratio. Around 2-3 WPG should be good.
    f) Yes a weekly cleaning of the surface of the glass is good.

No need to cycle with nothing inside. Cycle with your plants inside.

Your lights seems to be on the low side. You need at least 2 more 3 feet T5.

Well, cut the decayed leaves. Performed 1/2 water change after you cleared all the dead leaves.

If your water is too 'hot', have a fan on your tank, to bring temperature below 28 degrees Celcius.

The plants maybe adapting as well either from emersed to submersed form, or adapting to different pH environment.

    Cheers, Christophe

    Dear Christopher,

Thanks for the help, following is the reply.

    1. I do have chiller fixing temp at 26c.
    2. Cutting plant would be a huge amount of time, can I leave it there and change water once a week?
    3. Lighting is still ok, since most of the plant does not need so much light. Anyway, later on when budget is ok, I will change to 6 feet sun alike lighting system. Too expensive for me now. ( just speed a huge amount on this 6 feet monster).
    4. Plant is growing new left, thank god. But some of it (10&#37 die and decay.

Hope this infor is good enought for you.

    Dear WaterH20,

    1. I am still trying to get the right number for the lighting system.
    2. I stop changing water daily, but once a week.
    3. My tank is not near to any windows, but inside a small room.
    4. I will put in an UV later on. (Do I need to change the UV light bulb, since it is almost 6 month old liao. )

Anyway, I will put in more picture later on.

cutting and prunning plants does takes a huge amount of time, its part of this hobby, didnt you realise this before embarking on it ? By the way, 1 small picture doesnt tell too much about the situation you are facing. Include the names of the plants you are keeping as well. Then we will know if its adapting from emmerse -> submerged form. Mostly it is.

    Hi chinhl,

What brand of fertilizers are you using? Different brands of fert will state different dosing regime, some weekly, some only on water change, some daily, some on every 15th day, 30th day etc.

What is the ADA base super soil that have you mentioned? Is it Powersand special? If so, it would help to cycle the tank too.

As for the plants dying, what plants were planted? Eg, Plants such as the crypts will first melt and new shoots to grow after that.

Are your fish and shrimps surviving better now, since your plants are growing with new shoots?

What type of filter media are you using? The media would also help to cycle your tank.

    regards

    Thio

Could it be your light problem?

2pcs of 3ft light on a 6 feet tank seem too little for me.
