In case anyone looking for it, you can find it on Amazon.com at very reasonable prices. The earliest edition I could find was the 2nd edition published in 1935. There are later editions at even more reasonable prices.

    Chinese version

I managed to get a badly damaged copy of the Chinese version of Exotic Aquarium Fishes!!!!! WOW!!

Published in 1939! Damn Japanese controlled the city in 1937...so this is a book published during that special time.

Shanghai in 1930s was the third biggest city in the world after New York and London. It's the economic center of far east back then, more developed than the capital Beijing. Tokyo was recovering from the earth quake, Hong Kong was still catching up...

I think the cover was missing...

This Li Yu Shu is probably the relative of Ba Jin(巴金).

See the chinese name of dwarf gouramy...

    Discus!

This translation is even more funny! "Catch Insect Fish"!

Maybe these 30 species were imported into China that's why the author picked them.

see the price! 5 bucks!!!!!! primary school teacher's minimum month salary was about 30 bucks then!!

normal worker in shops earning something from 10 to 30 bucks per month....

it was definitely a hobby meant for upper class...
