Don't worry, you can bring along your chiller inlet tube to any lfs to match the hose which you are buying if the hose not fitting. You can buy a connector, i think it cost about 3bucks. Yes you can use a powerhead to drive a chiller.
I'm gonna purchase a resun cl280 chiller and instead of using a canister, was thinking of using a powerhead to pump the water to the chiller. Any bros here used a powerhead to drive a chiller ? If yes, any recommended powerhead to use for the resun cl280 ? I'm worried that the hose wouldn't match the powerhead outlet to the chiller inlet.

Was using Eheim 1250 for my CL650, now using canister to drive it. Flow rate for CL280 is 500 - 1000l/h, you can get any pump that between this range. Depend on your tank setup: for planted tank you can go for the maximum; for shrimp tank, go for the lower flow rate. AquaBee or Eheim are reliable brand.

it is advisable to use the output of a filter to drive a chiller. unfiltered water will clog the coil.

Hi trevally: I was considering doing the same, but unfortunately If I use a powerhead directlyfrom the tank I will end up harming the unit. I decided to use a wet/dry filter for that tank (freshwater, 40gal) and as long as I use a pump at >900L/H (say 300GPH) it should be OK.
