You need to drain off the water before you can dump substrate into the tank.

Hi all , iam new in aquascaping tank. I have a 4ft tank with fishes (10 discus, 10 tiger blub) in already (bare tank). Can I still do aquascaping with fish in? how do I start?
Hope to make my awfully bare 4ft tank into something that look nice like all the bros/sis here.
Thank and pls advice....
You need to drain off the water before you can dump substrate into the tank.

Ok bro, do you have another standby tank (with filter) to transfer & house your existing livestocks while you do your scape in the 4-feet tank?
In my own opinion, it can be rather stressful for the livestocks to do scaping with them swimming around... [Imagine I'm a fish & halfway swimming I see soil/ rocks falling into the water...Unless they had bought accident/hospitalisation policies lah...
] You'll also tend not to shift the rocks/DWs to prevent disturbing the substrate too much to cause cloudiness in the water. Furthermore, you may wish to cycle the tank the 'fishless' way for a while before re-introducing the livestocks back into the tank (Think better to do reacclimatisation process as the parameters of the tank after scaping now will be different from before & from the holding tank...)
Just explain your situation to your fishes, I'm sure they'll understand for the sake of upgrading their living habitat...
Cheers!

I do not have anyother standby tank ...anyway the one and only standby tank i have is only a 2 ft tank. How will it be if I put everything in my 2ft? it will be over crowded.

If you do not need substrate, can use plants tied on driftwood. Eg. Java Fern and Anubias.
koah fong
Juggler's tanks

Java Fern and Anubias easy to keep? where got sell ? so i just tied on driftwood will do?

Think most of the LFS like C238, Y618, NA , Colourful, etc will sell Java fern and Anubias. You can also order online from Mizuworld or check out the marketplace .And sometimes they are also sold tied to pieces of wood already. Alternatively you can buy them in potted or loose form and and tie to your own wood or rocks. They are quite easy to keep, just remember not to bury their rhizomes.![]()
It's simple...but no one said it will be easy

thank bro, guess out of no choice, this is all i can do, just get myself a few driftwood and tied Jave Fern and Anubias on it to make the tank not so arwful bare. maybe will add a few hard scale too.

You can also line the bottom with different sized pebbles so it looks like a river bottom.
Suckerfish no eat poo poo.
