How thick is your substrate? Did you root them properly?

Hei there! I've got a question about my balansae. The roots are actually growing upwards, out of the substrate. Any idea why it's doing so? Is it a cause for concern or can I just leave it as it is? Thanks!!

It happens to some of my plants. I have no idea why is it so but it is of no concern.
My Apisto Keeping Diary
Apistogramma agassizii, Apistogramma bitaeniata "Careiro", Apistogramma brevis, Apistogramma elizabethae, Apistogramma eremnopyge, Apistogramma sp. "Miua", Dicrossus filamentosus
I have the same problem on my crypto as well. It seems the roots is just growing too long, so it extends out. Nothing to worry about.

Maybe can trim them away if they affect the whole scape?

If it's just a few strands of roots here & there & it gets on your nerves, simply snip it away... However, if it's a big chunk of it in the water column, then could it be that the plant is trying to absorb the ferts that's richer in the water column - maybe you can consider adding ferts into the substrate...
PS: My crypts also have roots protruding out of the substrate sometimes but after I dip in a few more tablets of WonderGro Roots +, didn't notice the roots after a few days...![]()

Hei guys! Thanks so much!I was worried that there could have been something wrong with what I was doing but I guess its a pretty common thing...
To broSign: Nah, they don't really affect the scape since they are at the back of the tank.
Yup, I will try adding ferts into my substrate. Hopefully it'll help!
Thanks again all

Yup, will keep you updated. But it will probably be sometime before I'll go buy the ferts. There aren't many shops near my place and its a bit inconvenient to travel to the shops i wanna go to. Haha

Nowadays you dont even have to go outside to shop. There is this mizuworld online shop in SG (also AQ member). They deliver/post all sorts of aquascaping needs to your doorstep.

Haha thanks! Will look that up. I need to order a couple more plants too.

Am a pleased & satisfied customer of Mizuworld also... Excellent service (pre- & after-sale) from the boss, Ben [Ben, if you happen to read this, make sure you give me better discount/ good deals the next time I order things through you... LOL!!]. Items are nicely & safely packed & couriered by SingPost to your doorstep at your comfort in just a few days' time...
However, on a sidenote, you may wish to plan your orders (order many things & things you need at one go; or you may pool purchases if you have friends in this hobby) in order to spread out the delivery charges & order processing fees... [No choice lah, in this 'hyperinflated' times, I have to look at all possibilities to save money here & there...]
Hope the above helps... Cheers!!![]()

Oh, Ben sounds awfully familiar. Is he one of the moderators?
Haha yea, need to start budgeting. Though I always end up spending beyond my budget. I'm quite an impulsive buyer! Haha I don't mind spending the extra cash on delivery...though I don't how much he charges yet! =x
Was thinking or ordering in bulk..But then again...I've been spending too much recently..Haha need to cut back
