    Hi guys,

My tank size is 18"L X 18"W X 20"D. Light is 36W 6500K, water temp is around 30 degrees. I am using ADA soil. This is sufficient to grow glosso and what is the ideal PH and KH level?

    Thanks

It might be ok...the water may be a little warm and the light may not be enough but you could try it...Ive grown it in soft and hard water, it didnt seem to make much difference.
    I currently grow G. diandrum. The tank is 2' x 18" x 18" using ADA Singapore and Mh 150 W.

If you are using ADA soil, pH and kH are buffered. Do you use base fertilizers? Lights, nutrients and CO2 are vital to strong growth.

Hi, to grow glosso nicely, 36W is not enough for a 20" height tank.
    Try 72W or better 108W.

I've grown it nicely in a 10" height tank with 36W of light.

I'm using a 3ft Solite type 3 MH + T5 and they still running vertical
The leafs are healthy without algae just they are 3"-4" tall. It's more than just the light issue for me, will start trimming them.

If it's growing tall in that case, it's probably because it's not rooted. I normally trim those that grow upwards.

This also happens if the carpet is too thick.

Oh since you mention, guess that is one of the problem. Can see the roots everywhere. Thanks Stan!

I have bought a 36W illummax 1.5ft PL light. Can i upgrade my tube to 55W and above without damaging the unit?

Maybe you need to open the unit and check the internal E-ballast? By the way, 1.5ft got 55W/72W/108W PL tube?

Hmmm...good question. I am not sure. Most probably had to get tube that is for 1ft??

Glosso has a high light requirement and will grow vertically instead of spreading across the aquarium soil if it's lighting needs or not met . Replacing your current lighting with something brighter would remedy that. Growing Glosso at a lower temperture would be ideal but not necessary. Frankly most plants do well at low temperatures in the region of 24-27 degrees celcsus pehaps also adding a fan would help.

Another method is to lower your water or make it shallower so that the light can penetrate easier on glosso. You will get nice lawn of glosso.

hmm, i personally tried growing glosso with higher temp ranging 28 to 30. It could be overrated that glosso needs lower temp. (Please do not quote me )

it is doing perfectly fine and creeping at a good rate.

I used to have them in a 2ft tank with a height of 15" and using PL55W.

It starts to grow vertically initially, thus, i lowered my lighting to a lower level. perhaps this could be another suggestion to what blue33 had mentioned earlier.

    just my 2 cents.

Most of the plant prefer temperature at 25-28, at that temperature the leaves produce nicer shape. Most of the time if the tank has shallower water or tank height is shorter, even fluorescent light can grew nice plant.

Glosso, java moss, are but a few aquatic plants that tolerate high temperatures but you will notice it's not as fresh looking.
