I am using this MAG-FLOAT magnetic glass cleaner for many years. Recently, upon a close look, I noticed some scratches on the glass. Below is the picture; not very clearly shown. Anyone got similar encounter?

Anyway, I am not sure if this MAG-FLOAT pad scratches the glass. But maybe it is time to change the pad. Please advise where is selling this refilled pad? Thanks.

Come to worse, maybe use credit-card as cleaner is better?

A credit card is safer. Scratches occur when we clean too low with the magnetic cleaner and trapped substrate, thus the scratch when we ventured above.

I agree. Previously, I am always careful when using the mag-float and ensure never touch the substrate. But once in a while, my sons like to do it too and I allows after training them not to go into the substrate while cleaning. Although I never witness it, but maybe they had accidentally scratch it for whatever reason. Anyway, it was history now. So, moving forward; may use the credit card for cleaning in future.

Wondering any way to repair the scratches? It is pretty obvious at close up like 30cm viewing from the glass. It is more to chip off than scratches. Hope it will not deteriorate over time.

Well, I would think you'll have to live with it as with mine. Until the next tank setup.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

Agree, nothing much we can do. Anyway, how you scratch yours?

Wondering what is the quality of my tank's glass. Maybe we never scratch it at all, it deteriorate over time by itself? Will monitor and see...

Just to keep you in the loop. There was a discussion on it some time ago. In fact it was me whom remembered that there's is this solvent that car workshops used to 'mend' our scratches on the car wind screen. But a bro informed us that the solvent is toxic and none of us dare to experiment on it... guess its a road block for the time being till have a commando to test it out.

Thanks, I remembered I saw one similar windscreen repair product too. If remember correctly, should be sold at Autobac. Maybe, will drop by one weekends to confirm.

How does the solvent works? Also worry how the "solvent" merge with our current glass? Will it match well? The materials maybe different from our glass. Thanks for the info...appreciated and thanks.

Bro AnA, you gonna volunteer to be commando?

When I repaired my wind screen, all that fellow did was apply it along the cracks and viola.... it vanished.

From the last discussion, it isn't much about making the scratch disappear but more so that it seems toxic... secondly, can the paste stay being submerged in water. What I'm sharing is the questions that were raised the last time it was discussed and the conclusion was that the solvent used is toxic.

I'm open to such experiments. If you can find the solvent and a scratched tank, I supply the fauna.... it'll be beneficial to the whole fish keeping community.

No la...I am not fit to be commando.

For the current scratches, I still can live with them. So, do not need to repair them yet. For me, if it does not able to make the scratch disappear, then I am not so keen.

My Algae-Free Hammerhead magnetic cleaner unfortunately grab on a speck of marine sand that I didn't notice and I started to wipe the front of the tank glass with it. A nice scratch soon become obvious to my horror but luckily you need to be close and at an angle to notice it. From far, you won't notice it though. But this magnetic cleaner has claimed the thumb of the seller. While trying to show me the magnetic cleaner, he forgotten and got both part of the magnetic cleaner close enough that it attract. Me and him was struggling to separate both end of the magnet cleaner.

On another note, I had also accidentally got both part of the magnet cleaner together by accident after changing the pad. Took me about a solid 10 minute to pry them apart alone.

If I'm not mistaken, that pad is actually velco... the rough portion. You can find them at places like Spot Light where they sell DIY handicraft, cloths, etc.
