Nice fish that does not get much attention locally, let alone spawns. Any pic of both parents?

p.s. The orientation of the photo (and the fish) seems a bit odd to me.
Hi,
this photo is only a few days old. I hope you like these colorful and attractive cichlids like I do :-)
The young pair sucessfully hatched the eggs, but after two days of swimming all of the fry had vanished. I guess, the pair will try it again soon. Maybe then I will get some parents-fry shots, too.

Andreas,
Nice shot of mum with her eggs. Pity the fries were eaten, something must have spooked them.
I never had success when shooting eggs before
The pictures always didn't turn out sharp like yours.
This would give me the inspirations to try harder
Thanks.

Hi,
thank you for your comments.
They are spawning again at the very moment - only 11 days after the last time - and I already shot some dozen of new photos. Some of them might be worth showing, I have to process them later. Anyway, I´m glad about the water change and panel cleaning yesterday ;-)
I´m not sure about the reason why the pair did not hatch the fry last time, I doubt that the photo session was the reason, because I only shoot on day 0 and hatching went well afterwards until they were able to swim.
The tank is standing on my computer cupboard where I´m sitting right now, therefore out of reach for my girls ;-) - and there are no other inhibitants besides the Red Jewel pair.
Maybe some marital difficulties, maybe because both are quite young - let´s see what happens with the following breeds. I´m not overly concerned, noticed such behaviour with other species before (like Mikrogeophagus ramirezi), which finally breed sucessfully.
About the orientation of the photo above, to be honest, I have no problem with it. Maybe a bit unusual but for sure according to the original scene (although I don´t have a problem to shoot a scene inclined). Anyway, thank you for your point, let´s see what other people think about it - maybe I´m unaware of something. In my own forum a person was irritated by the position of eggs in the sparpness zone - this was because I did not shoot exactly in square angle towards the front panel - to get a better background.
I do have photos with both parents from earlier shootings, like the one below. The male is the darker one.

Hi,
I guess I talked to much about the species, since the topic was moved away from photography? ;-)
I did posted the first photo for photographic reasons and discussion about that matter is welcome.

your photos are too good they should contribute to the species! I did leave a redirection though. and photography discussion here is not discouraged

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Just spotted some of this fish over at polyart.
Just wondering if anyone can confirm that they are agressive and thus not suitable to be included in a planted community tank?

Hi, the Ph is just the normal range of between 6.5 to 7. I did not put any coral sand and it is just a plain 2 ft tank with a rock for them to lay their eggs.
The pics showing the air filter are actually from my 2 feet plastic tanks. Those cheap looking with those coloured covers with a handle. I acutally bought a big one to breed the jewels.
