    Hi all,

Recently i brought a bottle of Seachem Flourish excel from a LFS. I would like to know is this product safe to dose on my CRS planted tank? Anyone has dose this product in your CRS tank before?

Currently my planted tank has being infected by BBA from Bolbitis & BGA on bogwoods. Please advise me on the about mentions product is suitable for which types of algae & it is Safe for shrimps? My only concerns is, it might harm the shrimps.

Some LFS say "YES" but Some say "NO". I'm really confuse now. Not too sure which one should i listen. Please advise me...

    Thanks!

If you can bring the wood out, use tooth brush to brush off the algae, then use Seachem Excel on it, after that use ADA Phyton-Git to brush the wood surface.

    Hi route,

Thank you for sharing this useful infomations to me. I really feels much more comfortable & confidents now to used on these products. Just do a 50% water change today. Hopefully this will help to reduce some of the aglae from my tank. I will monitor it for another few days... if there is no improvement, i will start dosing the Seachem excel.

    Have a nice weekend!

    Cheers!

    Hi Adrian ,

Unfortunately my bog wood is cover with 2-3 inch of Gex soil.. i can't remove them out. Having a very hard time to remove those BGA from the bog wood. I guess i have to dose the Seachem Excel, if there is no sign of improvement after 50% water change today. What is the used of ADA Phyton-Git? I never heard of it before.. will do a seach on these informations. Something new for me. Thanks

    Have a nice weekend!

You can use tooth brush go inside the tank and scrap the wood. Then apply Excel on it. Use of Phyton-Git is to protect plants and woods from getting diseases and to regain their natural strength. Try to change water 10-15% everyday, it helps alot.

I hope you do know that Seachem Excel is not an algaecide and is not recommended to be used as such. The ingredients just happen to have some kind of effect on algae.

If you do intend to use as such, overdosing may (very likely) cause issues for your fauna. Just a friendly caution, cause don't like to see blames on the product when used as an algaecide.

In general people are pretty divided onto whether ferts are toxic towards shrimp. There's no doubt they certainly affect shrimp. On the other hand, people have been dosing ferts within the recommended range and the shrimps seem to be fine.

    Hi quote,

I've been doing this everyday since i got this BGA on my wood, but they are very hard to remove. Currently having alots of CRS in my 422 tank, i do not want to stress out my CRS by changing the water everyday. I only change my water every 3-4 days without adding the Excel previously. It helps by reducing the BGA but not the BBA. I will apply the Excel for the next water change, hopefully this will improve the condition.

    Thank you blue.

    Cheers!

    Hi Quixotic,

I'm not aware that the Seachem Excel is not for the used of ALGAE. This product is recommanded by a LFS, he told me this is good for removing those aglae i had in my tank. Maybe he did explained in details what is the main used of this product. Thanks for the advise Quixotic.

Can anyone share with me what is the main used of this product?

I suffered BBA in a tank before

I treated the tank with EXCEL but instead of dosing it into the tank, i syringed it directly onto the algae areas. No over dosing required.

You could also try H2O2 on BBA, same method , just spot dose the problem areas.
If done this way, the H2O2 will quickly oxidise and look like the tank is Super Pearling.

For shrimp tank, do not overdose Excel. And as encountered previously, dose Excel in the beginning of photoperiod and not towards the end. I've encountered heavy yamato shrimp casualties before.

    Hi Puffer,
Noted. I already got 2 CRS casualties this morning after dosing half of the requirement from excel instruction in my tank yesterday morning.

I already wipe off my CRS.... spotted 2 CRS die this morning before going to work.

I did about 40% (Age water) water change on Last Friday, dose some water softener as usual... let my 422 tank cycle for 1 day, started to dose 10ml of Excel on Sunday morning. Am i over dosing the Excel? My is a 422 tank which is more than 400L, can't figure it out what went wrong...
