I have been plagued with countless shrimp deaths for one reason or another. Now a new one I suspect is water change. I change 1/3 of my water in my 2 feet tank, I have added couple of anti-chlorine solution, half a cap of Seachem Prime, 1 cap of seachem excel, half a cap of nutrafin lushgro into the water. Today, I totalled a number of 6 dead shrimps. Any advice?

You have added too much thing in 1 time and have changed too much water at 1 shot.

If there is no better reason, change about 15% of water each time, change more frequent then change larger volume for shrimps.

Premix anti-cholrine into water before adding them into your tank. Best to use aged water.

hi bro, like what bro silane has mentioned, I will usually not change too much things in one day for my shrimps tank. That means when I change water, I will usually not add fert and excel; it will at least be one day later.

Too much Prime and too much excel IMO. Get a 1 ML syringe for your Excel, and start accurately dosing it in ML. I change 50% of my water each week without issue, sometimes more. How many gallons is this tank? I am not familiar with nutrafin lushgro, do you know what's in it?
As stated, the day you do a wc should be the day you 'reset' the nutrients..no dosing necessary.

I think you have been far too liberal with Seachem Excel and overdosed. I would use with caution even for the recommended dosage based on the directions.

Just a note that Excel itself may not actually be lethal to fauna directly, but in aquaria, it has impact on the eco-system and will effect water conditions. (Believed to bind oxygen, therefore causing depleted dissolved oxygen which is an issue with fauna, especially so with dwarf shrimps.)

Think its the dosage of the chemicals you put in. I do 50% wc weekly, sometimes twice a week and no issues. No chemicals except for anti-chloramine. I'm thinking of getting a water-purifier so that I can even exclude that. I don't believe in chemicals unless you have a very big tank or are able to control dosage with most minute accuracy.

A disclaimer though... I only do this on my fish+shrimp comm tanks and my cherry and malayan tanks. CRS tanks, normally 10-20% wc one to three times weekly. My concern here is that the temp of the new water will be too different and don't want to shock the shrimps.

Hmm, I think I will be more conservative on my water change first. Also does pH shock have anything to do with it?
