Neat and well done with lots of hiding places.
I suspect you have not quite reach the limit of plecos this tank can hold!

Got to be careful when choosing your plecos. Some will munch your plants away.

I am thinking of adding a pair of apistogrammas but with the recent pleco spawnings, I am wondering if adding cichlids is a good idea... Any bros care to advise on this, and if I should add them, what sp. would be recommended?

Should not be a problem to do so.
When pleco fry emerge they are quite large.

    Species? Endless numbers.
So just go for what you fancy.
    Condition being compatible water parameters.

Personally I would not add any apistos. Some of the apistos have big mouths e.g. cacatuoides...
    I am into Plecos now...

Okie... What about those with smaller mouths?

Frankly I am not concerned about apistos eating up fries that have escaped from the parent's care as the numerous hypancistrus and peckolitas both of which are carnivorous would do the same... For this tanks, I will always remove fry/eggs to breeder traps...

Need a mid level swimming apisto to help make the tank more interesting, esp since the plecos love to hide...

If thats the case, any apisto will do fine. How many pieces of plecos do you have in there? Have anyone of them breed before?

Frankly I do not know what number of plecos there are in the tank... All I can say is that I have been adding new L numbers in 6-7 pieces of each type in there... so my guess is easily 50-60 pieces?

I am seriously considering checkerboards as i hear they are peaceful with each other and will enable me to keep a number of pieces as opposed to other more territorial ones but I worry that they are rather difficult to sex and its possible to buy 10 without hitting a single piece of female...
