Hi Guys! Like to have feedback from you guys to see if using commercial liquid fert are less likely to experience one particular macro or micro deficiency as compared to PMDD or self made fert from various chemical..
Initially, I started off with JBL ferropol and did not observe any form of nutrient deficiency...but ever since I start PMDD..as well as dosing of 20-30ppm of K..I get this calcium deficiency problem...anybody with similar problems?

    Why so surprised?
If your commercial fertilizer has everything, of course no deficiency.
If you dose only K, of course you are going to see some deficiency if your water/tank cannot supply all the other essential nutrients.

e.g. If I eat bird's nest everyday for all meals, suddenly I realised that I am suffering from malnutrition, does it mean that bird's nest is bad for health?

p.s. how I wish I can afford bird's nest for all meals.[]

CK, reread Peter's post... he is dosing other fert other then just K.

Peter, what do you mean by PMDD? Dr Mallick's Lushgro or pure mix-it-yourself PMDD?

I've been getting Ca deficiency recently now that my GH has dropped from the high 10s to around 3 or 4. I've surveyed the liquid ferts that reveal their ingredients (namely, Flourish, TMG, LushGro). All accept Flourish do not contain Ca. I think this is because tap water do usually contain some Ca. Checking with PUB Website our water supposed Total Hardness in terms of of CaCO3 range from 20 to 100 mg/l. I do notice that Ca deficiency in my 6 foot tank tends to appear in new growth only towards the last few days before my fortnightly water change.

Now that we dose so much K, the uptake of Ca is higher and Ca from tap water alone is probably not enough.

I've started dosing Equilibrium in my tanks.

FYI: Flourish Tabs contains 20% Ca.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

pmdd is not one solution fix all, its like: you see this deficiency, you fix it. so get yourself a !small! handful of coral chips . dump it in your tank..
(placing coralchips,. i tried a small bag. about 100 grams. raised ph to 8, so its quite potent)

Ok. What I mean is that is the commercial fertilizer complete? Do you have the ingredients list of your commercial fertilizer? Check if there is Ca. European brands sometimes formulate their fertilizers with their home market in mind, which may have hard water. E.g. TMG is Calcium-less. If you dose K, but it cannot compliment what is lacking, then this is pointless.

If your fertilizer dun have Ca, then your plants was surviving on Ca stored in reserves. Plants dun just absorb what they need, they tend to hyperaccumulate stuff for bad times. Which is why plants grow for a while in the worst conditions (e.g. poor light) and eventually succumb.

The PUB water thingy shows hardness as "CaCo3".... but bare in mind that it could be Mg...

I just drop 1/2 a calcium tablet in my tank once in a while.

Using just PMDD from Dr Mallick's Lushgro.

Cheap solution tt last almost forever
The key to success is patience. If that fails, screw the guy in front of you!!

Zerocool..where did you get your calcium tablet by the way? Is it costly as compared to Dr Mallick's Calcium Sulfate?

Betta Passion..you can look up the LFS link for the address. As for how long it will last..well..it is sold in 1000ml bottle ...did see a 500ml type also I think..with a usage of 1-5 drop per 10ml (Dr Mallick clarify me on the dosing rate..no more than 5 drop per 10 litres of aquarium water as in example, my tank is 60l...I can dose the most 6x5 drops.) It will last very long. []

Oh..I am using the LushGro-Aqua...with nitrate inside that is...the other is micro..I need the magnesium inside aqua so I am using it as well as my tank is N limited.
