Hi bro, should be possible to set up a FOWLR marine tank... I'd done my very first using a used GEX Genoah 235 series (24cm cube tank; less than 1 feet cube tank...)

However, limitations will come in the form of unable to put in too much liverocks or tonga branches, live sand, livestocks etc...

For me, housing 1 Scarlet Hermit, 1 Common Clownfish, 1 Skunk Cleaner Shrimp, 1 Red Starfish (just RIP this morning... ), some zoas & some red macroalgae... Using the GEX hangon filter & light that comes with the set... Not running any skimmer due to space constraints...

or you can purchase big packet of natural sea water from the fishfarm or marine LFS. that will eliminate the hassle of premix saltwater

need to... more frequent coz its a small tank
water parameter tend to fluctuate alot... and more unstable compared to big tank... i prefered salt mixture than seawater... coz althought its cheap but heavy and need transport add together almost the same...

Clownfish, IMO are the guppies of the sea. They are a hardy bunch unlike Tangs, you can just mix tap water with marine salt. Just have a hydrometer nearby to measure the salt content. And oh never try having anemones in your 1ft, they will most likely crash your tank. It's very tempting to pair it to a clownfish

Hi bro dnsfpl,

I would however not advise using tap water + sea salt to keep your Clownfish -even though tehhey are hardy - (or any other livestocks you may add in the future...). Currently, what I do is I buy those distilled water (1.5l) & mix it with the marine salt before adding to my tank... Water change is more crucial & necessary for Marine tank (based on my own experiences ever since I started my Marine Nano Tank about 2 months back...). Especially so if you are intending to start a Nano as any change in the water parameters will be very fast & dangerous for the livestocks in the tank (similar to planted tanks..). Everytime I perform a water change, it requires about a bottle of 1.5l of distilled water premixed with sea salt... You'll have to perform regular top-ups also...

Buying seawater from suppliers/ LFSs is another option if you have the transport to carry them back & the space to house them in your home... [Think it's quite cheap also...]

Hence, you'll surely need to get a hydrometer (glass type or plastic type) to measure the SG of your saltwater mix... Try to keep temperature below the 28`C range...

You may choose to setup a FOWLR marine Nano for simplicity... Cycling of Marine tanks takes even more discipline (IMO) before introducing livestocks into the tank... Getting good quality marine salt is another crucial factor... [I'm not trying to 'belittle' that hobby of freshwater planted fish tank is 'chicken feet' & pales in comparison to Marine Tank Hobby here...]
