as you guys might have heard me bitching, tall tanks contain a lot more water volume and it's much harder to get them to be saturated with oxygen for bubbling to take place
this only rarely happened with my 2ft custom when it was overgrown
i just switched to a MH with exactly the same plants
    man, it's bubbling like mad~

    really good feeling
the light is much brighter and whiter
my previously green-seeming blyxa turns out to be a light pink
i'm going to try red plants once more, eheh

    Yimin,

As I understand, MH has a roughly 100 hour burn in period... during this time, the spectrum will typically shift... If I'm not mistaken, it typically shifts towards the blue spectrum... e.g. your light if its 6500K, drifts to maybe 7300K? Read this a couple of days ago in some webby. I forget where.

Anyway, its great to hear that your plants are happily bubbling! So is this why you are selling your MV?

thought someone said iwasaki mh bulb can be driven by bioplast mv ballast? ie: should be relatively simple to convert right?

Shift or no shift, no worries.
In my previous setup, upon switching from FL to MH, the plants also did significantly better and started bubbling even though my bulb was only 4200K.

It's good to get 6500K light, but plants in the wild are not gonna get that kind of light during the light hrs. Instead, morning light is near 4200K, moving to 6500K at noon and decreasing thereafter.

And these are just plants in the open. There are yet others that are under the shade of trees or other plants and they either get diffused light or during a short period when the sun is at a certain angle and the rays are not blocked.

As long as it's ok to you and the plants, it's fine.

is the iwasaki mh bulb screw in? because the mv is the screw in type
and yeah, that's why i'm selling off the mv

i'm more concerned about the CRI (sick and tired of having red plants look green) than the colour temperature
on both counts tho, i think the MH wins over the MV
also the intensity is much higher

    Hi DEA,

Do you notice any increase in water temp. with the MH compared to your previous lights?

hi eggz....it would more or less be the same as your current temperature. That is because the suspension will be much higher than what normally would be for PL or FL. However if the room where the MH is placed is not well ventilated, it will heat up the room considerabily

hi williamng...if i am not wrong yimin paid about 210 to 240 including the wire and plug.....and its a 150watts

    Thanks, David

Btw, it is cheap! I think 2 sets of 72W PL will cost more than $150 already.

Dang! 210-240 is a good price! The one in Bioplast costs something like 1.2K but very nice though. Anyone know where can I view the mh at the said price range?

    Thx,
    Roy

    the boss is eugene ng
ask for toyostar model 5507c (i think, if not just tell him metal halide)
it's not physically there, you can check the catalogue tho
    62512298 if i'm not wrong

not much increase in temperature from MV
    wrt to PL/Fl, i dunno
    but you won't regret it
you might notice an outbreak of algae initially but if your tank is stable it'll go away quickly

Thought the shift to the lower spectrum????...
Seen a 10 000k bulb shift till its very yellow... around 4500k....

    Guys,
If you diy with bulbs and ballast from EYE lighting, you can get it done with a very good price...
I got my 250W single ended Iwasaki 6500k at around $130...
    Items inclusive of
    1) 1 6500k Iwasaki (inbuilt ignitor)
    2) 1 Mercury Vapour Ballast
    3) I capacitor
    4) 1 E40 bulb holder...

The 150Ws Iwasaki comes in SE and DE...
