I guess it boils down to good circulation. Looks like i will be trimming and replanting these coming weeks.

By the way, I've always enjoyed good discussion from the usual veterans.

    Blue33,
My apologies for dropping a discussion bomb on your threads lol.

    Exclamation Wavemaker

I think i need to clarify on the wavemaker, not all wavemaker are suitable for planted tank, doesnt mean the L/hr is higher is good for planted tank. IMO.

Hi. Hydor Koralia 1 and Hydor Koralia Nano is different, i find Hydor Koralia Nano is more suitable for planted tank, for big tank use 2, one at each corner. Here's a video of a user i talk to, his video on his tank. Click >Link<

What's the difference besides the physical size and flow rate? I was advised that the nano would be insignificant in my 4x2x2, even if i put in 2 pieces. Hence my decision to put in 2 koralia 1s

What you want is constant flow from both sides hitting each other and bounce off everywhere and not strong current from beginning making the tank rocks , the effect will be more like powerhead instead, if tank size is big you need more nano to do the job. I'm sure you dont want to create a stir like reef tank which planted tank don need it. Anything more than 1000l/hr is no no for wavemaker in planted tank. IMO Too fast your plant may not get nutrients/CO2 in time, is like passing by and said bye bye to the plant. ...

Haha ok, since I bought it I'll try it out and give my feedback There is actually already a 1200l/hr powerhead in there, but I feel it's insufficient, plus I don't like the unidirectional single jet stream created by the powerhead.

Wavemaker create different respect in flow, is like pointing tornado in their direction, and the water sucking is like vortex, you can see the vortex effect if is place nearer to the water surface(better than lily pipe), you can rotate the direction to get different flow also. All this powerhead can never ever do it, they are just like water gun, shooting.

yup agree, that's what I hate about my current powerhead, hence wanting to replace the powerhead with the Koralia. The Koralia will now go into the opposite end of the tank from the powerhead so I can do a comparison. If all goes well, the powerhead will be removed and another Koralia 1 put in its place. If not, a Koralia nano may go in the place of the powerhead instead

Interesting. Pls post the result. After reading this thread, I am tempted to deploy wave maker for my 5ft planted tank However, I would to conceal the wave maker as all my pipings were hidden behind wood and plants. Not sure if possible?
