I am stuck at the point where i stand in front of the LFS and wondering which driftwood is suitable for the tank.

Thus I want to get some opinion on how you guys do the planning .. for example, do you generally have the ideal on how the driftwood to be looked like before hand?

    thanks in advance.

Pls remove the thread if it was posted in the wrong place.

    Welcome to AQ.

Personally I do quite a lot of reading and when I see a scape whether is it natural or in some books/web pages I see... I go shopping to try to replicate the scene I like. A good place for you to drop by is in the aquascaping folder... lots of reference there.

I usually just walk around and if see promising look of driftwood or rock and pocket permitted, just buy.

It is difficult to get the correct wood or rock when you need them. It is kind of seasonal.

Decide on the tank size and the type of hardscape you want, then start hunting for the wood/rocks you need. You may not get what you want so you may have to alter your plan later.

For the piece of wood i've jsut used in my scape i actually found and bought the wood 2 years ago. Untill this day i have not found a piece suitable for what i was looking for. So for 2 years it sat at the bottom of my wardrobe, and now finally i have it in my tank

Its more of a case of "COLLECTIVITUS" as StanChung calls it I see, i like, i buy...and i use whenever i find a use for haha. This scape of mine i've been planning on and off for 2 years or so. So the visual in my head is pretty advanced and i know exactly what i'm after. It's just taken this long to collect various other things i'm going to use.

Alls i need now is my new 2ft tank to plant it in. So as you can see, i buy everything i need (except plants) before i get the tank

Agree with you. Plant is the most difficult to figure out as is hard to mimic the plants placement in the tank as compared to deco.

i try to get the most visually interesting piece of driftwood or rock first... then comes e tank itself.

But i'll break them up if i need them for smaller tanks. But very heart pain to take a screw driver and break it up. but when its a must its a must.

I usually get tank first then look long and hard before buying anything.

That's why i've a collector planted tank, all my plant collected will go there! So i'm a "COLLECTIVITUS" as StanChung calls it. ... I need it, i will pickup from the "collector planted tank".
