Hi,
Are these large brown spots (almost yellow patches) or small brown spots?
Do you have base fert? Do you use root boosters? Do you dose fert in the water?

The brown spot is not very big n no yellow spot at the moment.Yeah I use jbl base fert, the plant is bubbling but just that it is not growing well.

Could it be that you used too much base fertiliser?
Do you add any other fertiliser in the water or substrate?
How are the other plants growing? Any bad signs?

Plants bubbling only indicates photosythesis... However it need not imply a healthy plant.... Some spots on leaves are ok. In the worse case, prune off the affected leaf. But keep a look out to see if more leaves start to show similar symptoms... in which case it means you are probably deficient in something...----------------

As for the bubbles, look where they are coming from... bubbles also come from tears and holes in your leaf, or sometimes after cutting a stem, you will see bubbles "leaking" from the plant.

my tank size is 5x2x2 n use 3 bags of ferz n no liquid form ferz.could it be too little ferz?

I would advise a wait and see approach... plants aren't going to suddenly wither overnight... usually you have ample time to start corrective remedies. The leaf with the brown spot may worsen and eventually die... thats ok... leaves do die from time to time... what you wanna watch for is that your other leaves don't start showing the same symptoms...
If you're really worried, theres no harm in sticking in a bit of substrate ferts near your bleheri base... Perhaps JBL 7-balls (messy if uprooted) or Bioplast fertilizer balls (forget the name... is depo something...) Or maybe some root monsters.

oki thanx for yr advise, guess i got to be more patient.

hi plantalk, echinodorus dun bubble, unless the leave is damaged, usually when u see bubbling, check out the spot, prolly find a hole or tear.. another thing abt echinodorus, the leaves dun melt away like other plants, except when the leave withered away and left in the tank. I agree with the rest, wait and see wat happens. would be good if u can provide us with a pix of the brown spot

I was getting yellow patches on some of my E.bleheri leaves at one time, these would later turn sort of brown and the leaf melted soon after. I have base fert (JBL) and root monster. This was about 1.5 months after initial tank setup and I hadn't started to dose any water column fert. Ever since I stated dosing Fe (E15), no more yellow/brown patches....

today i just discover 2 more of my plant is melting away.The specs of my tank is;
1)size:5x2x2
2)Light:144watt
3)Temp:28c
4)Gravel:lonestar,jbl ferz[]

hey guys , is this the same thing ?
me problem area
here fishy fish fishy . here shirmpy shirmpy here is my noobie tank(3wk)
yeah, the brown spot on the plant in the pic look similar to the brown that my plant had.
I am guessing you dun have enough light.
Echinodorus are usually grown emersed in farms, so the oldest leaves are probably emersed. Is that where you are seeing the spots?
If light is really your problem, you will probably see more plants melt leaving the low light plants.
ck

I agree with CK on his assessment. Your lights are a bit low for such a tank. My tank is 5x1.5x2 and while most of the time its fine, I sometimes wish I had more than the current 216W of light.
First step would be to boost your light... subsequently you would probably need to boost your CO2. Afterwhich you then consider how you want to meet the nutrient needs... Try putting some iron tabs near the echinodorus and see how it responds.

for echinodorus, i recommend the use of root monsters or laterite balls
can somebody tell me how to copy n paste a pic here as i have got the pic of the melting plant but unable to copy paste the pic.[]
Hi Allen_1971,
Where did get yr 5feet light or the casing?

Plant talk,
I bought my casing from Sam Yick some 2 years back... so far Its served me well.
On another note, it would be good to try and keep your postings in topic... i.e. on E.bleheri having brown spots... This is so that we don't go off on a tangent. Appreciate if you can either pm people or start an appropriate topic in the future? Thanks.
For info on posting pics click here. Next time please do a search on the forum as well.
