My experience with keeping apistos has been limited to small setups. Was just wondering if it's possible to keep 2 pairs of the same species in a large 4x2x2 tank, or does the territoriality extend to such a large area?

i'm not looking to breed them, so fry survivability is not an issue

I think what he meant is if you are not bothered about them breeding. You can go ahead with 2 pairs. Or even more then 2 pairs. Why don't you do a all male tank? This way, you can keep many different species together without aggression that arises from their breeding activities.

ok just wanted to make sure

I recently purchased 2 pairs of wild bitaeniatas...i did think of an all male tank, but bitaeniatas are hard to come by and usually come in pairs, so i just grab as they come on sale hence I have 2 pairs now and have to drop the idea of an all male tank

Your all time favourite of bitaeniatas, let them spawn for more quality fries.
    I had tried 2 pairs in a 2x1X1.5 with 3 caves,vijieta and agassizii,no problem.

No problem at all, Yixiang, you can put more pairs inside... If you really want all males, won't they royal rumble??? Kind of miss WWF... Hahahaaa

Actually 4ft very huge.. If well planted, you can't really sees them if they keep hiding till feeding time.

I am very very sure it'll work. Cause i am doing that. plus german and bolivian rams. Plus a lonely checkerboard male.

Just make sure it's heavily planted. And i mean jungle type of heavily planted.

IMO, one pair to every 3 feet.
