I just acquired a nice 3ft tank from one of the bros here... tank came with some Gex soil and fert and some crypts....

As I have no grand plans for any fauna at the moment.... I am hoping to use this tank to propogate some crypts or other plants for my future project...

The plants that I would be interested in are narrow leaf ferns, all sorts of crypts and maybe tenellus swords/hairgrass...

I will use minimal lighting (mostly out of a 2ft light set)

I intend to only fill out half the tank... fauna will be a mini puffer, saes and ottos...

Question is whether this can work, I am concerned about algae/insufficient light, etc...

Is flow important for such a tank? I did not intend to install a filter.

To prevent algae, you'll need to balance fert, lights and CO2. I'm not too sure about Gex soil but I believe its like ADA that has some fert properties. There might be a real possibility of too much fert when you cut down on the other 2 variables.

A friend of mine has a filterless tank but wc has to be done almost everyday... too much hard work for me I see more disadvantages in not using a filter bro.
