the weeping mosses are on the walls of tank
Good day,
I recently decom my 2ft shrimp tank and set-up a smaller 1.5ft tank. Using ada soil from the previous set-up(washed), harvested and re-tie my us fissidens to wire meshs.
I also bought some weeping moss and tie them on wire mesh.
My tank is running on chiller with 24.5 to 25.5deg and lights for 3-4hours per day.
Its been 10over days and my us fissidens are doing well covering the meshs, but my weeping moss are turning yellowish/brownish.
Can anyone enlighten me as to why are they not doing well when the fisisdens are thriving? Is there something that is missing?
Now they have turned yellowish/brownish. Is it at the point of no return? meaning dying off no cure already?![]()

Wow that's bad! Look like it can't be save. How strong is your lighting?

hi, i am using pl lights 55w
Try reducing the light to 24w since the plant you have is moss & fissidens
55w for 1.5ft is quite high.

1gallon = 2 watts light?
55W for 1.5 is extremely high. Algae will definately set in..
I can see your water is pretty cloudy, moss prefer very clean water condition and CO2(prefer). I've checked this with Bioplast boss before, you know what, he's using Metal Halide for his show tank. Moss can grow at low light, but they actually prefer high light. Below is the picture of my moss on the wood, 2ft tank with 3.8WPG 24WX4 T5 light. You can see that nearer to the surface, the moss is more vibrant. This setup is only 1 month plus. On certain occassion, people realise that their moss from so healthy and beautiful, slowly turn brown and die and they didnt know what happen to it. Moss will turn brown and die if your water condition is poor. I believe your substrate has got to do with this, once you recycle you restart all over again the whole cycle.

I have restricted the lights to only abt 3-4hours per day and so far no algae.
The strange thing is my fissidens are doing fine while the weeping moss is dying...
My tank is still cycling period. Could it be that weeping moss requires more nutrients as compared to fissidens?

i intend to keep it a simple shrimp tank that's why i am keeping only us fissidens and moss wall....think i'll switch the weeping moss to taiwan moss and try again.
I believed that the weeping moss could not get accustomed to my tank's water because they were newly purchased while my fissidens were from my decommed tank.
Tough luck as its so hard to find weeping moss nowadays.![]()
