    Hi All,

Being a newbie in planted, i would like do some due diligence about gravels before setting up another tank. Can you share what are the pros and cons of using ADA and Lapis?

    What is feel is that:

    ADA:
Properties of the sand are good for planting (of course they are made for plants) (Pro)
Tend to cloud water when they are overused and granules will start to disintegrate (Con). Difficult to do minor rescape.

    Lapis:
Do not cloud water and easier to maintain (Pro)
Need base fertilizers before laying the soil bed

    Can anyone contribute more? Thanks!

Be it lapis sand or Aqua Soil, they can grow plants reasonably well.

The choice of substrate should depend on what kind of a hobbyist you are. If you are the type that likes to keep shifting the stuff in your tank, opt for lapis sand. If you are the type who will settle for a scape once you decide on it, Aqua Soil is the way to go.

Heard that ADA can lower PH and grow plants better. Larpis is quite pretty but you will have to add fertilisers on your own.
