Yeah... but I was reading this post in the Plants discussion and someone was saying that he removed the glass and it actually improved the growth...something like that...
thought it will neutralize all the water fertilization...

Please for heaven's sake don't remove the protective glass. Yes the plant growth will improve (obvious why) but the potential for mishap is enormous. I removed the protective glass to my 175w, and all i want to say is that i wished i hadn't touched mh in the first place.
talev, what happened?
water splash? light tube exploded
yes
the MH is so hot water splashing on it will crack the bulb immediately
there is a REASON why people put PROTECTIVE glass on devices
don't screw around with them
if you want to, you can cut another piece of glass that is rated for devices like those, and have it clear instead of frosted
i think they make uv shielded ones, but that's not an issue if you have UV-P bulbs
Well, water didn't contact the bulb. The fixture is ceiling mounted 3 ft above the water surface.
What happened was that moths apparently have this thing for bright lights and one of them decided to land on the sun.
There was a burning smell and 3 3yr old congo tetras died the next day, probably from eating the charred moth on the water surface.
lol
but that's not considered catastrophic yet
