New wood tends to have this issue, you can use paint brush(those long type) to brush off and siphons out the mould. Is time to send in the cleaning crew.![]()

TTS and Blue, Thanks for the kind input. i took my long planting pincer and tried to remove some of that mould. Yiks! so disgusting!
I also threw in 2 of the SAEs i have from the other tank. Hopefully they survive the night. Tomorrow must go buy some Yamato and ottos and SAEs.
How many do you guys think is recommended? i was thiniking 10 shrimps, 5 ottos and 4 more SAEs.?

mollies feed on them too!![]()
I had them too, but nothing to worry its not harmful. When shrimps were introduced, they simply clean up within hours.
There's 1 more query i have, my water still looks alittle cloudy. Its not those crystal clear kind. Anyone knows the problem here or do i just have to wait it out?
Thanks.

It's a common problem with new wood... even without fauna it will clear off one day overnight if you leave it long enough.
yup this happened to my horror as well. Fully covered the bog wood like jelly. But after about 3 weeks, it started to die off and peel off by itself. Then I just siphoned it away.
Yesterday, i added some Oto... but it does not seem to be doing much help. I then used an toothbrush to gently brush the slimly stuff away. Today, the mouldy stuff is there again! And its covering part of my Riccia that is tied on the wood. I guess i have to be more patient.

The other thing is the water. Im not sure if my eyesight is bad or its really the water being cloudly. i Did 2 water change(50% each time) so far in 6 days, but it seems like the water is still cloudly.
Will washing the Canister and its contents help? i understand that there are Beneficial bacterias but i currently have only a few Otos and 2 Saes in the tank. Will washing the Canister filter and the contents harm the plants?
Please Advise. Thank you.
*Will also update Picture of the tank tomorrow after i do another waterchange.

Never wash your canister contents with fresh tap water as all the bacteria will die off and create the cycle again. ie your cloudiness and jelly like mould will prosper. You can wash the contents to remove sludge with the removed tank water and top up fresh water into your tank instead.
Oto doesn't seem to eat the mould. It smells really bad too. Put in more plants away from the wood so the jelly doesn't get on them. Once these plants start growing, the jelly will die off slowly.
The water will be slightly cloudy its ok.
Thks bro Cookiemunster!
