    Hi all

    I am using Biohome for bb housing.

    I read from their website that there is a "best flow rate".

    'Biohome Plus' is another similar product which has carefully chosen trace elements added to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria.

    In our experience we have found the best flow rate is ;

    Marine: 10 mm / sec
    Fresh:
    5 mm / sec

    how do I relate the 5mm/sec flowrate into like litres/hr?

    how come they are using mm as a measurement? mm refers to millimeter which is a measure of length right? how can we measure this with our filter flowrate?

    Thanks.

    A shot in the dark:

    we usually measure flowrate using volume/hour (e.g. 1050litres/hour). Assuming that the flowrate is accurate and in the filter where the biohome is, the flowrate is the same as advertised, you can divide the volume by the flat area of the part of your filter holding the biohome. This will probably give you the mm/hour of the water at that particular point of the filter. you can then convert it to mm/sec.

    again, this is assuming the reported flowrate is (i) accurate; and (ii) constant enough that anywhere in the filter loop. These are rather unrealistic assumptions though, so the best you can get is a VERY rough estimate, to the point of perhaps being wholly inaccurate
