Equipment for a 1.5ft cube shrimp tank

I am planning to set up a new CRS tank. The tank will be a braceless 10mm 1.5ft cube from Weeyang...

I am planning to use Undergravel filter for this setup, with Gex soil (Red) over the undergravel filter...

The tank will be chilled using an Artica 1/10 chiller... and illuminated with Illummax 1.5 ft lights...

As it is a chilled setup, I intend to use willow moss/fissidens/mini paella/gu jing and glosso in this tank... A worry is that the use of ferts of these plants may contaminate the water for shrimps...Can any bros advise on this?

Can anyone recommend a suitable filter/pump for use with the Artica 1/10? If a pump is recommended, please also recommend a filter... (I have an old Eden 501 that I can use for this, not sure if it is powerful enough for a 1.5ft cube).

I would also like some recommendations as to where I can buy a suitable undergravel filter and what brand is suitable for such a setup?

i would recommend against using an undergravel filter for a soil tank...you'll end up probably pulling nutrients into the water column, plus the soil would disintigrate really fast.

as for filter, i'd recommend using an Eheim 2213 as flow will be slowed by your chiller.

Hmmmn 2213... seems that I will be spending alot more for this setup than I had planned... Hope the end result will be something aesthetically pleasing and thus worth it...

UG filter was recommended in a number of threads and website... but I see the logic on nutrients being pulled up and soil disintegrating....

Any other views?

A canister is still more advisable, probably a Tetra EX 60 that produces 460L/H. After going through the chiller, you may probably get an estimated 350L/H... good enough for a 1.5ft cube.

You're spot on about the sensitivity of crs to fert. I'll concentrate more on moss and fissidens which doesn't require much dosage. The other advantage of these plants are that it trap food, allow shrimps to savage them later.

if cost is a concern i guess you can go with the Tetra as recommended by Aquaculture I recommended Eheim as I have personal bad experience when I chose to go another brand for my office tank ended up having to buy the Eheim anyway.

As for aesthetics...that means more money spent. Eheim green tubes are the farthest from aesthetically pleasing. I'd recommend getting Eheim installation kits. Some would recommend lily pipes, but you've gotta take the trouble to maintain/bleach them every now and then, or they turn as green as eheim tubes

I think I'll go the Eheim route... This set up is going to be quite a fair bit of work again...
