Just wonder, for external Canister Filter user, how much you wash one time? like few month one time or every month? Wash is only the Canister filter or wash the tube, rainbar, inlet..etc...

I normally wash the filter media only when the flow started to slow down. For me, maybe twice a year.

I have never clean the tubing. Anyway, the fishes and plants are doing well so I think should be OK.

Without substrate you have the issue of actually 'planting' the plants

That is why people buy canisters, low maintenance.

Wow ..good, i just get my Canister Filter (First canister) so was curious how long ppl wash one time. Well guess I will just wash the Canister (contrainer) and as for the tubing , will change to new (maybe one year change one time) ....

By the way is Dolphin C-1000 Canister good? Enough for a 4ft tank? i still found that my 4ft tank still abit cloudy after 2 to 3 days after water change.

Have you properly set up the filter media as per the instructions? If done properly there is no reason why your water should be cloudy after a water change.

I don't have a dolphin filter so I cannot tell you. You can try looking at the eheim manual for the 2028 here for an idea.

From the manual you show me, i believed the first contact from the inlet is the media first, then the last contact before the water go to the outlet, it the sponge...am i right?

Not sure if your dolphin works the same way.

Manual is water flows through rings > coarse sponge> sintered glass media > fine sponge.

If you have not enough media also could be a problem as there is nothing to filter the particles inside the water.

The way my eheims are set up, I put quite a lot of media in them just like you see in the manual. There is really 2 purpose in the media, one being mechanical to remove the particles inside the water, the other is biological meaning to remove the chemical contents.

I really don't think thats required. If you honestly want to do so you can. The only thing that requires changing would be activated carbon filter pads ect if you have them. Otherwise its fine. Changing the tubes just adds extra cost to your maintenance that doesnt have any benefit. The tubing simply transports the water to and from the tank.
