    Asking this newbie question.

When we do W.C, do we have to dechlorinate the tap water first before pouring in? If we use holding barrel or cans, how long do we keep it that way before using? What if I don't use anti chlorine in the holding barrel?

Many thanks for reading and answering my noob questions yah!

I add anti-chlorine solution into a pail of tap water before transferring into tank.
For my CRS tank, I age dechlorinated water for a day before using it.
Aging water allows dissolved chlorine to escape. But nowadays, our water contains chloromine. Only effective way to remove chloromine is to add anti-chlorine (with anti-chloromine) solution.

I just add Nutrafin aquaplus (anti chlorine & anti chloromine) into the tank and later tap water straight into the tank, Mr Chan(NA) also do that to his tank. Individual preference, so long the fauna's are ok.

It depends on the water in your area. You might be able to get away with straight tapwater, especially if you do frequent small water changes.

    Hi bro,

for me, I simply collect the water in the pail, add in API's Stress Coat & leave it overnight (or longer) before using it for WC or top-ups... Hope it helps...

    Regards.

I introduce the water slowly instead of rushing in. So far none of the fauna die.

Aged water is best. No need for chemicals but you need storage tank. An airstone hooked up to it with a float ball keeps it refilled and if you don't WC more than 50% of your tank water the fauna can tolerate the minute amounts of chlorine if present.

I also did it the same way and I prefer it to be this way as I have no place to hold the water overnight. Moreover it is cumbersome, too.

I just add tap water straight in. After that I will add anti chlorine. Shrimps are pregnant and surviving.

My WC is usually 5% but there are ocassions when I did a 50% WC. A few cardinal tetras died.

if not you can consider RO/DI which confirm allow you to straight top up from the tap and no harm can occur.

Sofar Seachem prime has worked well for me, I do WC 50% weekly direct from tap, but at very very slow rate, to fill up 50% of a 2FT tank it takes me almost 1 hour, and every 15mins I pour 1ml of Seachem prime arnd the area where the tap water goes in.

    rizal,
for me, im using seachem Prime with Aged water; 6days in those 28L pails bought from NTUC, homeproud brand. I dont use airstone, just ziplock wrap the pails for easy storage. For alternate days top up, i use Prime treated water stored in those 2L coke bottles, age for about 1-2 days.

That is really lots of work! I just use IKEA plant watering container to refill my tank everyday, took me less than 10sec to top up everyday.

I just attach a garden hose to a tap and fill it directly into the tank. Water change about 1/4 of the tank.
