since you intend to save up
might as well save a bit more and get the bigger models
    no harm
saves you the trouble of upgrading when you decide to get a bigger tank to replace the current one
    i'd go with 2228 or 2028
i'm not sure if eheim still has support for the 222x series, so keep that in mind

if cost is of paramount, and brand is of second concern, why not choose other cheaper ones like Atman, Astro(typo?) etc? You can get one at less than $100 which meets your requirement.

Although spare parts may be harder to find, but how often does the parts go haywire? The filter will be keep inside cabinet or somewhere that it wont get bumped into often, huh? 1 or 2 yr? By then, even if you buy another brand new one, it cost you the most $200.

I am using Atman 3335 (flow rate 600l/h) for my 3ft. Some friends also use it for their 2ft.

I recommend, that if the 2213 is sufficient for your tank, why not just stick to that. Just save your money.

Or you could save up to buy a new larger filter only when you upgrade to a larger tank. Make sense?
