My recent interest in apistogramma has led me to consider air pump filter setups... similar application considered is a pleco fry growout tank....

A casual look at the online stores recently operating in Singapore has revealed a number of options ranging from 10ish dollars to 200 dollars...

I have always spent abt 15-20 dollars on air pumps and note that you can't split the output over more than a couple of tanks... Anyone tried those 200 dollar ones? What are they like? What are the differences?

    What brands/models are recommended?

I realise that I know so little about this fundemental piece of equipment...

Those 200ish ones are actually hiblow type. Meant for racks of tanks. You can even build air pipes behind those racks & then a metal tap to connect the normal air tubes to it. just like how LFS does them.

I wish to have air distribution at 5-6 points per location, I suppose hiblow types would be an overkill for this requirement? I also find my 10-20ish dollar ones not doing well enough... any mid-range option that I can choose?

If possible, please help recommend one thats low noise and power consumption too

The lfs are always telling me that Eheim pumps are quiet and energy saving. Haven't tried it myself though.

Hiblow has a "Baby" version, Baby Hiblow which you can consider.

For equipment like filter and air pumps that are run 24/7, factors you should seriously look at is the noise level and power consumption.

Yes indeed... I dont mind sinking in higher one time costs as long as its good for the long term....

Which baby hiblow is this? Is the brand baby?

Why not consider to get a AC/DC air pump, such as Ranger 90000.

Never had a problem with hailea brand air pumps, they run forever and are cheap, if I had 2 tanks I would just use them, don't have to buy exxy ones like tetra and eheim.

    Hi,

Yup, the brand is Hiblow, the model is 'Baby', it only has 1 outlet, but you can split it to support several tanks. I am currently using it for 2 of my tanks but was told it can support 4-6 easily.

    Price, around $90.

If you're planning to go for more powerful pumps, there's Hiblow 10, 20 or even higher.
    Hiblow 10 around $130 - $140.

    Cheers

Go for baby hiblow as it suits your needs, quiet and powerful in operation.
