hey guys, im totally new to freshwater and planted. as i have been in marine since the start
am thinking of setting up a 36"x24"x20" front crystal panel tank. and i need your helps to get the tank going.
i know running a sump is not really the best for planted but i would really like to have a sump to hide all the equipments.
this is what i thought about how the tank will be.
for the output, i plan to run them off lily pipes. as for the pump, will 1 single ehiem 1262 be enough? it will run to my chiller first before going to the tank. Or do you think i should run another pump for the chiller back to sump?

Welcome bro w3ish3ng! Hee looks like we have too much salt liao time to wash some off![]()
What does the red and blue dots represent? I couldn't enlarge your pic to see it clearly.
Try to surf around our equipment sections. I believe a few members are using the sump system.

hey,
yes, they might be using sump system but i am trying to make mine totally have no eq in the display tank at all except the lily pipes.
the red ciricle is the durso, piping for the water to flow down to the sump. the blue circle is the output, from the sump to the tank.
can i run a ehiem 1262 on 1 output with a lily pipe? will it be too strong for the lily pipe to take it? and is that enough flow for my tank?
thanks in advance
Your overflow box is at the back of your main tank? If neatness is what you're striving for, then you should probably have a plan on how to hide it.
Try to visualize the flow of water in the tank... it appears to me that there's a slight chance of debris being pushed to the front of your tank and end up settling there instead of being pushed into the overflow box.
I must stress that this is a problem everyone will encounter, regardless of types of filters they use, just that in your design, the debris will probably end up at the front, probably at the front left and right corners.

Bro, think 1262 is a lil strong for 3FT planted tank?
well, i got 2 nos of them now, so was thinking of running 1 of it. i will be running it through chiller first before returning to maintank
what do you think is a better pump? ehiem 1260?
I kindda like the layout of the single centralise outflow and the inflows since its a common problem we all face with debris bring in front but its easier to siphon water from the front then the back.
The Eheim 1262 produces 900gph, let's not forget that its going through a chiller before being introduced back again into the tank. Think the flowrate is alright after the chiller. Personally I like to have a faster, evenly distributed flowrate rather then a tickle. Moreover if the flowrate is too slow, the chiller would kick in more often.
To lessen wastage of CO2, you can probably add the CO2 reactor between the 1216 and the chiller. Cooler water helps CO2 dissolve faster, coupled with the added distance to allow it to bond better.
Just my 2 rupee worth of thoughts.![]()
Thinking out loud here...I'm trying to imagine the cyclone effect caused by the lili pipe. If you place 1 facing the front, the extreme back corners might be dead spots (dead spots is an open invitation to algae) as your outflow is behind the tank. Twin lili pipes would lessen the dead spots but probably not completely wipe it out.
Personally I drill my own outlet pipe to prevent dead spots. Cheap and effective solution.![]()
may i know which will be the best way for flow in a 3ft tank like mine?
